I don't think I can figure out how to add all of the pictures I wanted to post to this thread...
But I have found a small cluster of A. Muscaria. Just wondering what type it is. I am not going to eat it. However, I did find a giant cluster of what I believe may be edible if I can get an I.D. on them.
I couldn't figure it out so I uploaded them all right here: http://imgur.com/j1ycak2,e2UorUM,4HHsj32,5v6uXQf,rqw0CbJ,8xlT4TE,zx84QzA,NAmei9X U can see them all from this link (imgur is safe i hope i am not breaking any rules by linking to here).

some info on the the first two pics: The Amanita is around immature pine trees on the side of the road. The pine trees are about maybe 2-3 feet tall.
The other 6 pictures are all this cluster of brown mushrooms which I hope to have identified as edible or inedbile: The brown mushrooms have a very earthy, woody, sweet smell and white gills. They are growing on a stump cut very low to the ground. I noticed this giant cluster from the side of the road in an area which borders USDA zone 7 & 8. in the very southeast of Virginia.

Your second species is indeed edible, Armillaria tabescens.

wow, thank you!
Wikipedia has very little information on this strain. Any word if it is a recommended edible? I can buy mushrooms at the store if these are not worth eating. Also, when I google it I see a lot of pictures of clusters not growing on tree stumps. Do you happen to know if they need to grow on wood like this? If they are worth eating I can try to grow out some mycelium and make try to make them happen in my yard... thanks for the i.d.

They sometimes grow on buried tree roots and appear to grow from the ground. They are also a plant pathogen, which means they can infect living trees and kill them, so you probably wouldn't want to introduce them to your yard if you have trees there. Some people like them a lot, some are indifferent, and in a few people with weak digestion they can cause mild gastrointestinal upset. Only if you try them will you know whether you like them or not.

1. is probably some variety of amanita muscaria, or maybe a. flavoconia. 2. is armillaria tabescens. all mushrooms growing on stumps should be possible to reproduce. never tried with armillarias but i will one day, they are one of my favorites. thanx for idea. if you see clusters not growing from stumps directly, its still possible they grow from underground roots.

Awesome! I'm so excited. I've photographed mushrooms outdoors for years but have never gone and picked and eaten anything! Now I just need an idea for what to cook them in for supper tonight if anyone has any info on preparing these I'm all ears. Feel free to p.m. me

FYI, they are species, not strains. Strains are related groups of individual organisms that have been selected for breeding over the years, for example, different batches of cubes (species = Psilocybe cubensis) like golden teacher, penis envy, etc...
