Judge in Montana teen rape case has been under fire before
Quote:
(CNN) -- A Montana judge at the center of a firestorm for giving a 30-day sentence to a teacher who admitted raping a 14-year-old girl has been under scrutiny before...
...Prosecutors asked for a 20-year sentence with 10 years suspended, court documents show. But the judge followed the recommendation of the defense, which called for a sentence of 15 years, with all but 30 days suspended...
Last month, the state's Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education criticized Yellowstone County District Judge G. Todd Baugh for dismissing what would have been a woman's 13th conviction for driving under the influence...
In July, a 55-year-old woman from Billings was facing what would have been her 13th conviction for drunk driving, but struck a plea deal to avoid that outcome.
Baugh, according to local reports, sentenced her to a three-year suspended sentence for felony criminal endangerment.
The commissioner of higher education said the "most shocking" thing about the case was Baugh's words to the woman: "If you drink and drive and kill someone, you will spend some real time in prison," the judge said, according to the commissioner...

They need to change the law, judge is acting within what is aloud. I strongly disagree with it, but our courts are fucked. Blame the system more so than the piece of shit judge.

Oh I see now, 15 year sentence with all the days suspended except for 30 days.
what the fuck kind of sentencing is that? "yeah I'll only give you 30 days, bro, but I don't want to get in trouble so we'll say it's really a 15 year sentence will all but 30 days suspended.... teeheeeheee"
They should just let the rapist rape the judge, then send him (the rapist) to prison for life.

I feel like the media is leaving something out here. Maybe he lived in some state where it's still legal to fuck a girl in the ass once she's 14 1/2. Who gets 30 days for legit rape...

It was statutory rape. They say he seduced her, but I would assume that's speculation. She also killed herself after. He only got charged because he violated a deal anyway. The whole situation seems pretty whack to me.
http://www.xojane.com/issues/stacey-rambold-cherice-morales Obviously a biased article, but there are some worthwhile quotes from the judge in there. Also some good things about why statutory rape is still pretty serious. A lot of people say shit like "She knew what she was doing." No, clearly she did not. People who know what they are doing do not kill themselves afterwards.

Well if it was consensual you can't lock the pedo up for THAT long, she's like a year younger then an adult in some countries/states (lol) and he lost his job at least.
He took advantage, but in some places girls as young as this sell their body voluntarily. It's not bizarre enough for someone to take their own life over.

It was statutory rape I'm sure. The 14 year old was willing, but not competent according to the law to make her own decisions. In other countries they marry at 13.

In Japan they're allowed to marry at 13 but it's looked down upon by everybody.

I wonder how much it costs to bribe that judge..
Also I bet if you go looking through his convictions he's given people caught with drugs more time than that (I don't count the suspended portion as 'time'..)

I don't think statutory rapists should get 20 years..but 30 days is light. I think 2 years sounds about right. This is especially true when a 16 or 17 year old has sex with say a 24 year old.

You don't understand.
Girls go through puberty at like 12/13
In some states it is LEGAL to marry a 16 year old.
In south America their sweet 16 is at 15 years of age.
He should definitely have a felony no arguement there.

Give me a fucking break. 30 days suspended sentence? What a joke. Old ass teacher, 14 year old student, put that motherfucker in jail for a long time. I don't care if it's statutory or whatever the fuck. Note the article goes on to state that the girl in question killed herself two years later but I'm sure she was totally willing and knew exactly what she was getting herself in to. And the same judge gives a lady a pass for her 13th DUI? Pretty depressing that this guy is in the courtroom making judgments on people's lives. Fuck that guy. What a joke this system is. Where is the accountability?

and you seem to have missed the part where it mentions her as a 'troubled youth', maybe she was troubled because in the last 100 years man has decided to legislate away a million years of biological impulses
the article isnt the only thing that's biased
