Are these cakes worth dunking for a second flush? Pics
    #18768836 - 08/28/13 03:22 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

So these Mazatapecs I just fruited have been an interesting ride.  They were extremely aggressive colonizers and the mycelium actually reached out across the foil and colonized some of the perlite around them in some spots.

I think they may have picked up bacterial contamination from this.  There are LOTS of yellow metabolites on the cakes.

I managed to get one really good flush out of them and all of the mushrooms seemed really healthy but the cakes just look like they are fighting something fierce.

Is it worth trying to dunk them?  I don't want to risk spreading more bacteria around the chamber since I have new cakes fruiting in there too.  I probably just need to empty it out and sanitize the chamber and put new perlite in.  But even if I did put in new perlite, I'm not sure I'd want these cakes in there possibly spreading bacteria to the perlite or something.

Those cakes are dry, I'm guessing you already pulled a bunch of quality and weight from them.

I'd clean off all the little bits before dunking.  I'd personally toss them after cleaning all the little pins and stumps off.

You can see what will happen but you can tell by the weight they have lost a lot of moisture and you probably have gotten plenty off them so far.  I'd just throw in another batch of cakes if I were you.

Yes I did already pull a great first flush off of them.  Some of the best pinsets I'd ever seen on my cakes.  Wasn't too much dry weight though since I got the common 'small' genetics that seem to accompany the mazatapecs.  But more caps than any other cakes I've done before.
