Grifola fondosa? Hen of the woods?
-------------------- "Shrub, 30-90 cm. Leaves 2.5-) 4-9 cm, sessile or amplexicaul, broadly ovate to ovate-oblong, obtuse or rounded to subapiculate or subacute, when crushed not smelling of goats." "The initial quake was a 6.6 but fairly shallow. I felt it as a prolonged up and down vibration followed by a jolt forward and then to the left, like square dancing."

The "not smelling of goats" was in an id for a hypericum. Not fungus. Purty silly indicator for a plant, eh?

 stems
Couple questions. I read an article about cleaning maitakes and it stated and many other sites about mushrooms. not to clean them in the sink with water. I read elsewhere this is a myth. Some culinary professors say never put in water they will become waterogged. Other professional cooks say make sure you wash your mushrooms! Also are the stems considered edible if soft too? see pic.
