Are these Xerocomus Subtomentosus?
    #18768156 - 08/28/13 12:05 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

Found them in mixed woodland. Mossy wet patches. The cap is kind of olive green and velvety.

Edible Yellow Cracked Bolete?

Thanks
Steven

No cracking.

"The initial quake was a 6.6 but fairly shallow. I felt it as a prolonged up and down vibration followed by a jolt forward and then to the left, like square dancing."

Where's the cracking meant to be? On the stipe?

Not all the pics I see have cracking. Do you think its edible?

On the cap.  Young specimens might not have it, but your pics are all mature, and I see no cracking on any of the pics of the cap tops.  I have no idea what these are, I think I can identify B. edulis, but the more I know, the less I know about boletes and their lookalikes.  Sorry.

Keep them cool and dark and be a little patient...  Do a sporeprint to pass the time...  ;-)

Also not noted - do they bruise?

The older ones have blue to seems like changing brown bruising.
The younger 2 I have are hardly bruising at all. Maybe slightly brown.

Is the cap surface "suede"..?

Cut it in half lengthwise and check if the tubes bruise blue. Flesh should be a light
yellow color, or whitish, depending on the variety.

What am I looking for in a bolete spore print. Can you tell if a bolete is poisonous from a spore print?

Yea they taste good.  Boletus spore prints should be olive brown.  You can not tell if it is toxic by the spore print alone.
