I have a theory. What do you loggers think of this..

If you were to roll your staw around one of those bubble wands they have at the pet store, you could pump fresh air right into to core of the subtrate. This would give a continuos fresh air supply.
You could also us this to water with a sterial nutriant solution, or plain water by injecting the liquid right into the air line. The flexible hose should be self sealing if you use a small needle.

Do you guy's think it would need an inline filter to stop airborn contaminants? If so... Would an inline fuel filter (the paper filter kind) work by itself. or should I wet it with a bleach solution?

By the way... Does anybody know how to get sharpie markers off of a computer screen?

If you start from the begining, with the forced air, the myc. will grow around the air passages. The air flow will be uninterupted.
This should allow for stronger growth throughout the whole log. Not just the surface.

I've tried different methods of air exchange within a log and ended up with trich growing every time. They work just fine all closed up. That's closer to the way they evolved in nature as well.

I am two weeks into my experiment.
GUY'S YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS YOURSELVES.
I started two logs, from the same straw. PC'ed all together then seperated. It has been two weeks and the plain log looks like it. The log with the bubbler in it's core looks is totaly covered.
I would guess it has 60%-70% more visable growth then the plain log.
My mentor has been growing on straw for six years and he has never seen growth like this before.
I am trying to find someone that will let me borrow their digital camera so I can show you the results.

How did you filter the air?
The real question is will the centre be ridden with contam.
If you HEPA filtered the air and blew it through with a bit of pressure you could maybe have huge logs with no anearobic core. But then again would there be a point.

Nice work dude, sounds promising.

I know this is starting to sound like a grow log. This thread started here so I wanted to fill you guys in. I will post in the grow log also.
I am three weeks and a few days into my experiment.
Both logs were inoculated with the same amount of myc. started in potato water. "I know it's old fashiond but I've been growing Myc in potato water for 12 years."
Log #1. The log with the bubble wand in the center has been totaly colonized for just under a week and I noticed small patch of pins this morning.
Log #2 The log without. is colonized very heavely on the bottom but is still strugeling to finish filling in.
Both logs are still in oven bags.

I have had trouble maintaining moister in both logs. Log 1. loses water much faster but it is much easier to replace.
Log 1. I have had to add water three times I injected 7cc distiled water right into the air hose. The forced air pushed the water into the cake in seconds. seems to be evenly dispersed. no water collected at bottom of bag.
Log 2. I have only had to add water to this one one time. I dripped 7cc acrossed the top. it slowly ran throw the straw to collect at the bottom before being absorbed over a period of 2 hours.

Log 1. is attached to an aquairium pump. I ran six inches of hose then rigged an inline fuel filter from walmart. A clear plastic container with a paper filter inside. then another four foot of hose runs to the bubble wand imbeded in the log. I'll add a drop of peroxide to the paper filter every few days. This is injected into the hose between the pump and the filter. The air pushes it to the paper.
I know I need to get a digi. cam so I can show you guy's what I'm talking about. I'm not bullshitin this is realy working great.
I could use some backup, give it a try you won't be dissapointed.
