America can do whatever they want. Want to know why?

Something there is mysteriously formed,
Existing before Heaven and Earth,
Silent, still, standing alone, unchanging,
All-pervading, unfailing,
I do not know its name; I call it tao.
If forced to give it a name, I call it
Great (ta). Being great, it flows out;
Flowing out means far-reaching;
Being far-reaching, it is said to return.

It's just a shot away..

I know how to solve the problems in Syria, I've had the solution for quite some time now actually but Obama just doesn't seem to give a flying fuck.

just to be clear... Are we looking to help the Syrian government or the rebel civilians?  I havent had a chance to detailed reading, been at work the whole time. :sad:

At this, the goal is to topple the government because it uses its military against the people.

From there, it's anyone's guess. Which group will take over the country? We don't know. How fast are they gonna create political parties and have an election? No clue...

Right now, shit is being thrown in the fan non stop. The first priority is to either stop the fan or take the shit away. Then it'll be Syria's job to wash the walls, floors and ceiling.

Tell me you don't believe the propaganda line that this is some kind of popular uprising, do you? This is a foreign jihadi invasion. Heck, half of those fighters are Chechen.

We don't know who used the chemicals and attacking will lead to WW3.

It's about time cause shit has been going on for too long but there's are many problems to think about.

#1: Syria vows to use any means possible (chemical weapons, etc) breaking every every rules of war established by the Geneva convention

#2: Since its been 2 years of revolt, the population has divided themselves in many groups with different ideology and Al-Quada is in the mix.

#3: There will be massive casualties on both sides

#4: Egypt. The problem is a lot clearer there, its a military coup, plain and simple. Interfering there right now would prevent the population from dividing and many different groups. Plus, they had democracy and it was stolen by the military.

I can't imagine how the soldiers feel right now knowing that they will be deployed when they are fully aware that is gonna be free-for-all, anything goes war.

Should the world retaliate with chemical weapons if Syria used them?

Shit is fucked up

The world should not retaliate with any chemical or nuclear weapons. There is no need. Syria and Egypt both have powerful militaries, but they can't stand against the combined conventional firepower of the West.

This shit has been a long time coming. I've been a blue hawk on Syria for years now, and Egypt is just proving my point that if you let a dictator get away with anything it only encourages others to see how far they can take it in a sort of ghoulish feedback loop. It needs to be stopped, sooner than later.

We better hope there's no boots on the ground.

Western interference will not help in anyway. Assad, and his sect the alawites, see this as a fight for survival because the main islamic branches see them as heretics.
As someone said the rebel forces consist of many foreign(and native!) jihadists who want to install an islamist state and a western invasion will greatly boost their recruitment capabilities.
Syria is a huge, vital state and I think this will have severe repercussions in the long-run for security in that region, regardless of western intervention.

I'm for bombing chemical facilities and what-not but bombing campaigns to oust Assad will lead to even more chaos and bloodshed. I dont know what the alternative is but I am certain the next decade involves a lot of bloodshed in syria regardless

I agree that ousting Assad will probably lead to more bloodshed, but that wouldn't be the case if we'd done it before he killed and chased out all the sane people in his country.

Yeah, Assad is the good guy because the big bad foreign Islamists consider him a heretic. :facepalm: Jesus. You know the borders of the middle east are completely arbitrary? :onfire:

Oh no I'm not saying he's a good guy at all.

The point is that the sectarian bloodshed is so high and that he and many of the elite are part of the alawite minority, that there will almost certainly be retaliatory ethnic cleansing. And that is partly why Assad and his alawaite supporters are desperate to stay in power.

Unfortunately this arbitrary state borders Turkey(the buffer state between east and west, talks to join the EU) Israel(importance is obvious), Iraq(same again) and Lebanon(which has its own very active/powerful islamic militia/terrorist group etc that was at war with israel). Off the top of my head there are four important states that are going to be de-stabilised by a collapse of governmentc either through the already massix influx of refugee's or the influence of militant groups on their borders or interacting with local groups.

From a strictly geo-political view I would say Assad is by far preferable to whatever alternative, 'cos it aint about to turn into a liberal democracy anytime soon. Morally I think he should be hung by a lamppost however :smile:

The problem is, the longer the Syrian conflict goes on, the higher the oil prices become. Just this morning crude oil was selling for 112$ per barrel compared to 108$ last month and 101$ three months ago. That's a 10% increase. Their crisis affects our wallets whether we go or not.
