    #18766497 - 08/27/13 11:13 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

Habitat: well rotted stump, old growth forest, olympic peninsula
Color: Light brown, white at margin, white pore surface
This was a soft pliable fungus the whole cluster about 8" across.

Any ideas? thank you!

It resembles Laetiporus species although more brown colored than i am used to finding. Wait for a trusted identifier to confirm.

Thanks for the feedback all!

I should have mentioned it was a conifer stump. Hrmmm Heterobasidion's all look much more 'conky' to me, this was a thin flexible fruit body (maybe just a youngster?) It reminded me of a laetiporus too except the color was completely wrong. From what I read, Meripilus is a white rotter with a strong preference for broad leaf trees...

Any other thoughts? Not a big deal as the fungi in question is still in the woods, not que'd up for the dinner plate, just satisfying curiosity at this point!

Thanks again
