Being around animals on psychedelics - can they tell?

I want to hear if you think animals can tell if you're tripping even if you're not showing outward signs of it. Can they? Can they not? Only certain species? Please give your reasons and anecdotes. Looking forward to the replies.
I was reminded of this when I realised how much I liked the presence of dogs on shrooms and how I felt they could tell. Even though I'm not a dog person at all. The reason why I thought they could tell is because dogs usually get unsettled by me, they usually bark and snarl or run past ignoring me, I guess they can maybe smell my anxiety. But when I encountered dogs on shrooms they came close and just looked at me giving off peaceful vibes and seemed oddly understanding or they'd want to play.
I also noticed I could get freakishly close to wild animals that are normally very timid and flighty such as songbirds and squirrels.
Perhaps some here might have a more objective understanding of the experiences between trippers and animals.
Disclaimer: This is NOT about feeding drugs to animals.

During my last mushroom trip, we were downstairs at my neighbors apartment and he had a cat that was pretty much tweaking out when we were all down there tripping.
The cat could clearly sense something in the room but he wasn't sure what. I remember repeatedly staring at the cat and trying to communicate with him, to no avail though, he tried to claw me.
It's hard to tell I guess, but I think they can definitely sense our energy when tripping.

Was it the cat that was tweaking out, you antagonizing the cat to make it tweak out or you on psychadelics imagining the cat tweaking out?
Dogs can read our facial expressions and body language, but I imagine cats are less in tune to this. Psychadelics often make us feel closer with animals and nature and such--not to delegitimize this feeling--but it's probably more on our part than the animals.

The cat was tweaking out as in... the cat sitting by itself, anxiously observing everyone in the room while not being able to pay attention to anything for longer than 2 seconds. No one was antagonizing the cat, he tried to claw me when I stood by the box he was inside of.
It just seemed like the cat knew something was up but wasn't sure what to make of it.
As far as dogs, I can definitely see them being more in tune with feelings and emotions. I've read stories about people tripping with their pets, and feeling as if they were passing positive energy and love towards their cat/dog/etc without actually touching the animal.

I've always been curious about this. I have two dogs that I grew up with. They're about 15 years old now. There have been plenty of times where I've tripped around them (usually cid or shrooms) and I swear they can sense it. I know I've tripped nuts and have acted way different around them at times, but even on a relatively low dose where I'm acting normal, they always seem to act different around me. One of my dogs in particular. She usually stares at me very deeply, almost with a concerned or curious look. They also get very playful, like they want to comfort me. I've always believed that my dogs could tell, even when everyone around me couldn't. Quite an interesting phenomenon. I love my dogs.

I think so. My first trip on mushrooms started to take a downward spiral then my cat came out of nowhere and cuddled up next to me, she made me feel safe and gave me that sense of familiarity i was looking for, i felt as if she knew i was starting to have a bad trip. she turned my trip around and i actually got to enjoy myself afterwards :P

Yeah, I think that they can sense our distress and just want to make us happy. Or at least I like to think so.

All I'm saying is my dogs (three) always want to kick it with me when I'm tripping.
My bulldog would bark at my door if I didn't want him to trip with me until I let him in.
...And now he's dead and I wish I could trip with him again

Of course animals are aware. Animals are utterly aware beings much more so than many humans. They--especially dogs--have a far more advanced sense of smell, and a deeper sense of peoples body language and vibrations or moods.
The funniest experience I have had was --I had three pets in the house, a Westie, a Yorki (dogs) and Sheeba, a cat. I was singing this VERY deep bluesy song that I was just really feeling. I was on my knees eyes shut in a room and on the facing wall was a table and a window ledge and two chairs. As I was singing this, I was in ecstasy and partly laughing and could feel ecstatic vibes filling the house and even outside lol ...when I opened my eyes I was amazed to see I had this little audience of the cat and two dogs. The dogs were sat on the chairs, and the cat on the windowledge lol

hahah that sounds like quite the trip. I don't have any pets but tripping with a pet sounds awesome.

When I tripped recently and sat with my cat, he definitely knew something was up. Did he know I was tripping? Of course not - he's a cat. He was keen to my body language and he was sniffing my face. I was probably putting out some different scents than normal. They pick up on things that humans would never smell or notice.
But it wasn't just the cat. I think what's also at play here is that I was more in tune to HIM. When you're tripping you notice things you'd never notice normally - and it goes a million fold for living things, especially our pets. While I was more in tune with him, he took the feedback and got more in tune with me. It was very gratifying.
One thing I definitely got from psychedelics - be kind to animals. Not that I was ever cruel.. I just didn't give them much thought. Since tripping I'll never miss an opportunity to give love to one of my friends from the wilderness.

I know my dog knows but he is very calm while I'm on it. He will silently sleep next to me while I stroke my fingers through his fur. I find his fur to feel so amazing while I'm tripping, he also has a huge role in keeping ME from having a bad trip, when ever I feel as though I'm falling that way all I gotta do is pat my lil furbaby, lightly rest my head on him and straight away I am calm and back within a beautiful place again. I remember the last trip I had there was this beautiful rainbow glittering across his back.

this is a bit...out there?
but I believe yes...but not specifically because of psychededlics. I believe it's because of energies. I think maybe many non human animals are more able to read energies of things...and when your trippng, for the most part your usually excuding huge amounts of positive energies...and are more in tune with energies yourself.
my reasoning for this is because after I started tripping a lot and becoming a more positive happier person all around animals seemed to be more at ease with me. It is now super common for me to go to a friends house and have their animal immediately curl up on me...many times to the huge surprise of their owners...and the last time I tripped one of the foxes that lives in my backyard came within several feet of me on my back patio while he was rolling around on the ground and playing. it was, for me, a breathtaking experience because I love animals and nature.

My friend has a dog that they brought in from the elements. It was probably beaten. She never lets anyone touch her. One night we took acid and i decided to sit downstairs alone with the dog when it really started to kick in. After about an hour (felt like an hour anyway) of sitting in the dark with the dog, throwing vibes back and forth and her scampering around, she put her head on my hand for 3 or 4 seconds. Ha sounds stupid but it felt awesome at the time. I could tell that she didn't feel threatened with me and was relaxed. Maybe because I sat there for so long feeling very content. I think it was because of the drug. Still now the dog never lets anyone to close to it.

A tiny bit off topic, but big dogs FREAK me out when I'm tripping. This big golden retriever at my buddy's house is a sweet mellow dog, but he was sitting there chewing on a big bone and I couldn't help but see every muscle in his jaw working as he "practiced" eating me, and I became acutely aware that he was just a few generations removed from a big wild predator... just casually sitting there next to me on the floor.

Maybe it has to do with the survival instinct. When you trip, your survival instinct is attenuated or shut off. You're body language no longer puts out vibes to other creatures warning that you could be a threat. Your pet picks up on it and drops his/her guard. If this is the case, then I guess it wouldn't be a good thing in the wild. Let's say you're camping out and tripping and a bear or something comes along and he knows you're tripping. You're dead meat!

Let's put it this way most humans can't tell I'm tripping unless I want them to.Animals don't even know what psychedelics are, maybe monkeys might but that's about it.I think what your experiencing Is just a complete harmony with nature on psychedelics. It feels like they know because your getting so close to nature and it's inhabitants while tripping.

I dont think animals Know we are tripping, I just think some can sense when we are in a different zone. I havent tripped with my dog so i cant say for sure, but im sure they can smell things like weed on you and approach you differently. I think pets are very understanding of our body language because all they do is sit around and watch us. So when my dog smells weed on me, and sees me sinking into the couch, she approaches me for attention because she knows through my body language and through past experience that i will pleasure her while im stoned (..pleasure her with pets). So i would imagine that if i dropped acid around my dog, she would not know anything was up until i started walking around more smoothly, staring into her eyes more offen, and when she learns that kind of body language, shell react to it. Im not sure i would say that she can "read my mind" though, i think its just all body language. So to answer the big question, I personally think they can tell but they understand our experience through our body language, not through some higher power of mind
-------------------- I know exactly what you mean. Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire life, that there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I'm talking about?

They know we are at least "altered" somehow. Without an ego animals are more cognizant of existence; while we are lost in our thoughts.
When we break through that; come back into the living godhead moment we become again truly alive and harmonious with nature and the animals perk up as you join that awareness.
Animals are also sensitive to energy/emotions/smell which sometimes go haywire during a trip; and they respond accordingly (depending on the personalities, relationships and circumstances involved).

All readable matter in the above post is ficticious... any similarities to real life are purely coincidental. Blessing.

Funny, I was tripping the other night on a light dose of lsd and 2c-b and I was sitting in my backyard the entire trip. My dog never went inside to sleep, he could have at any time, but he chose to sit there and just look around... Like he was standing guard. A few times during the night he came up to me and stared me deeply in the eyes. It was strange, but somewhat comforting. This isn't the first time this has happened either.

i have a large backyard with 3 goats across the fence in the neighbors yard. i have always wondered what it would be like ot trip out there and be around them, if they would act differently or if they would morph into the "energy form of goat" in my minds eye.
ive always been way too afraid to try.
the only other drug/animal experience i have had was on molly with a cat. i petted it, it purred, felt divine.
