hi, this will be my first time colonizing my jars. it has been 10 days now. i have noticed 1 jar is sky rocketing with mycelium everywhere. then my other 5 jars really arent doing a thing. i can see it in spots all over the jar accept it really isnt doing anything. i was wondering what would be the problem? also there is no mold growing inside of any jar.

I think you will be fine.
Look closely do you see any growth in the other jars?

There can by a myriad of reasons I can list.
-Were the other jars super hot when they were inoculated? -Did you use less spore solution in the other jars? -Did you store the jars somewhere else where it was cooler?
These are some things that can contribute.

Yes, they will be just fine. It will take a few days. Those little light patchy spots will turn white and run through the rest of the cake before you know it. You don't have to worry about a thing.

Can you take a pic? "Spots everywhere" on your PF cakes is a very bad sign

yeah everything is looking fine. there is no off color, when i look at the very bottom of the jar all the mycelium is connected at the very edge. i just lifted the foil up a bit so i can see the top of the jar and i noticed a lot bigger spots of mycelium. im not as worried now

Assuming you are doing pf tek with jars that have a lid..... Take the foil off of the jars completely. Let'r breathe through the holes you used to inoculate. Try to avoid handling the jars too rough, so you don't shift the verm layer. If you are using drinking glasses with foil as a lid, disregard my comment. Good luck.

sounds a bit scary letting air have contact in the holes knowing there could be a higher chance of contamination?

That's why there's a dry vermiculite barrier between the air and your substrate. Leave the foil off your jars for good.

d9c6 is right. That's the only purpose for the layer of verm. It's a simple, yet effective air filter.
