How thick should the sandwich be?

Hey guys, I had a quick question about the bong sandwich method for DMT.
I feel like I might be skimping on the herb layers, I've been putting just enough to hold the spice, and just enough to cover it, but should I be using thicker layers? Lately I've been having trouble breaking through properly, and I feel like I might be burning my spice, despite my best efforts to go very delicately with the lighter. Any tips? Thanks!

Enough on bottom so you can take in one slow rip. But don't suck it through the hole while its still lit. And just enough on top to barely cover the dmt. Quickly lick the flame over the bowl to cherry the top layer and use the heat from the top layer to melt the spice down into the bottom layer. Also make sure your herbs are as dry as possibly so as to not need much flame to be ignited.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldnt a thicker layer on top help protect the spice from the lighter alittle more? I've been doing the three-hit method, and I use a screen underneath the bottom layer of herb to make sure it doesn't melt/fall through.

it will but also its prob gonna burn at a slower rate hencing you wont get 'as much as you can' off those hits. thats the key, getting as much as you can with every hit. the lighter the laqyer on top, the more you're gonna be able to get in. i always just put a layer underneath and coat the top with deem and just dont touch the flame to it.

Ah, I see that makes sense. I've been putting the minimum amount of herb in so that there's less to smoke. That's also why I was wondering if that's why I've been having a hard time. When I light it, Ive been drawing and slowly bringing the lighter closer until it cherries up. Not 100% sure why I've been having trouble
Im going to be making changa in a couple weeks when my scale comes in, but in the meantime I'd like to be able to get this method down.

Just lick the flame over the top layer of herbs really fast while inhaling slowly. If the herbs are dry they should spark right up. It just takes some practice with the flame, you'll get the hang of it. Changa is a good idea also. You can use any smokable leaf to make an enhanced leaf to smoke just like you would weed.

That's basically what I've been doing. Never torching the bowl, just licking it very lightly. Thanks for replying! When my b. caapi leave come in, I'll have another go.
Thanks for replying! If anyone else has any tips I'd be happy to hear em

Everyone knows that it's not the thickness of the sandwich, but the length that matters.
