Why does everyone like Doctor Who? 6

The creators of the show put basically no effort into creativity. There seems to be essentially no restriction on what is possible in this show. Whenever they want to keep the show going, they come up with some ridiculous excuse why the apparent end of the show wasn't actually the end. Placing restrictions on what can happen in your fictional world forces you to be creative with your plots. But there are no such restrictions in Doctor Who. A half-baby-half-crocodile manticore could freeze an ice cube 100 years in the past by shooting fire out of its anus and nobody in the show would question it (nor would any of the fans).
Not to mention that it's cheesy and there isn't even really any social commentary in it (which is often what makes shit like that cheesy)
Why is this show so popular?

Never bothered to watch it. Sounded shitty from the git-go. Although I hear the original 60's version is better.

Agreed its just shamelessly being milked as far as sci fi goes its targeted to the lowest common denominator.

I saw the first two minutes of one episode (from two years ago maybe) and was instantly turned off. It just looked so cheap and cheesy, and not even in a good way! Possibly not even in a low budget way. Some dopey english chick got chased by evil mannequins in a department store after closing time, and then Doctor Who came and said "we gotta get out of here!" or something. Nah.
I think the show is popular with young women who are into "safely" quirky guys. Weird in an acceptable way, awkward but in a cute way, and still hot.
The theme tune is great though. At least the 60s version.

Yeah the original theme song is awesome. I got into the new show somewhat but it is incredibly cheesy. I downloaded a torrent a while back of all the available episodes of the original show(some were destroyed) but I haven't watched all that many of them.

I used to watch it a while ago, but haven't been able to bring myself to see it again lately. I'm almost afraid to watch the latest season. I first got into watching it one day when there was nothing else on and that went on for a while. Tried to watch it the other day, but was like "Eh, I have video games on deck, son!".
.... Wouldn't mind a cup 'o' tea with that Martha Jones though (If ya know what I mean )! I think it's the accent.
