What's your guys procedure for putting your mono into fruiting? Anything special?

I'm mainly wondering about how sterile you are in the process. Do you shower, clean the room, turn off airflow, etc? Do you even open the lid or simply stuff the holes with polyfill? Do you even do that or just wait for it to pin, what signs do you look for outside of full colonization?

Your mono isn't spawned in sterile situations, there is no reason a fully colonized substrate needs to be in sterile conditions either. I wait till I see knots, take the tape off the holes, fill with poly, and turn the fan on.

Nope. No need for sterility. This is about the point where you've won the race. I use "curad" brand micropore tape instead of poly, but the main points are fresh air and bright light.

I buy it a few drinks, give it a few bong rips. If it's still hesitant I slip a roophie in its dunk water.

You don't have to be anywhere near sterile.
Though anytime you're in your workspace you should be "clean."
My definition of clean is at least washing my hands. And that's mostly all it consists of. Of course, if you've been out rolling in the grass then you shouldn't rush inside to pick mushrooms. I guess I'm saying you don't HAVE to be clean, just don't be an idiot.
My answer for when I'm ready to fruit is if I'm tempted to case it. If you reach full colonization of the substrate and don't have a pin yet, you're likely gonna have something to write home about.
There are probably like 10 threads a week asking, "is this ready for fruiting???????" The best way to learn right from wrong is viewing the experiences that people have had before you and to base off of that.
Like this and this and this and this.
Okay, you get the point.
Hope that helps.
EDIT:
Oh and evaporation off the substrate + FAE. Two main triggers.
Evaporation might be hard to figure out, but your tub will actually do it for you if the monotub is properly dialed in.

Lmao, that is exactly why I'm asking. I've been here for years and as this thread is already demonstrating the answer is constantly changing and always different. I go inside and out so frequently and literally do play in the grass (I like digging :P) so the inside of my house looks like the outside and the outside looks like the inside, seriously. I have a garden so the yard, the house, is all filled with insects and all kinds of spores. I've started growing outdoors as well as in for this very reason. No matter what I do to clean literally within a week the house has lint and likely spores all over it again. On the plus side over time this should allow me to isolate a pretty damn strong strain, but on the downside it, well... takes a lot of strain to get there. I've been growing for 2 years in this house and only now am starting to see signs of improvement. I think my best bet is to actually take a spore print from one of my outdoor grows and keep isolating it through sequential grows and agar transfers.

It sounds like you might benefit more from growing outdoors than in.
Everything is the same, except 100x easier because you don't have to worry about contamination. Which is the ONLY downside to this hobby.
The only fight outside is bugs, but they are very simple to deal with.
If you're having trouble keeping inside clean (contamination free) and don't have a worry about growing outside then hell, why not!
Maybe grow inside during the colder months and outside during the warmer months?

Yeah, that's likely what I'm going to end up doing. So far all the mushies that have popped up outside are often eaten by bugs, I don't really see a big deal with that, but it limits the yields. Due to the garden and compost there's lots of bugs though, how do you deal with them? Maybe sprinkle salt around the patch?

Sounds to me you need to quarter off a section of your house for mush growing.. I mean complete closure. And don't wonder in there with muddy boots and sticks and twigs in your hair, ya know what i mean. Regarding procedures..Before any innoc or spawn to sub transfers i always have a shower.

I have been suggested several things to deal with bugs (mostly slugs and snails, but including the roly-poly bugs)
1. A friend of mine said snails and slugs hate spent coffee grounds. Which is convenient because mushrooms LOVE them. She told me she figured this out because snails and slugs were thieving her strawberries, but stopped altogether once she put down a little spent coffee grounds.
2. Take a small tin of beer and set it on the ground (I picture an upside down frisbee). The beer will attract the bugs and they will drown when they go to indulge themselves.
3. Some type of sand or rough surface in a ring around the grow. Snails and slugs hate crawling across the rough surface like sand provides.
I thought about using salt, but salt will mess with the composition of the soil and likely hurt plants around, and could injure the grow as well, so I avoided salt. If you're gonna use salt, maybe put a bit in the beer to ensure they die once they crawl in the bowl of beer.
I hope that helps, if you know of anything else to keep the bugs away be sure to let me know! I'm always interested in ways to keep out the critters.

You could always use epsom salts, I'm not sure how well they work for bugs though. Table salt will kill the surrounding plants, but I don't see a big deal with that. Mycilium also readily eats salt so it'll clear it up in time anyway.

You give her the fratty treatment, eh? I go for the blue collar approach: today I put a mini-mono into fruiting as soon as I came home from work. I was lifting heavy shit for the first half of the day, and then I mowed the lawn and weedwhacked for the second half. I came home sweaty and reeking of BO, ripped off the tape without any foreplay at all and just shoved some polyfill in there. I didn't even ask it if it was good.
I'll let everyone know if it contammed, but I think it can handle it.

I bet you that tub loved every minute of it. Did it grab you a cold one and make you a Sammie?
