Habitat: Woods by a river, north Western newyork, found in the middle of the trail after a thunderstorm with lots of rain on a decaying piece of log.
Gills: Light tan not attached to stem, lots of gills close together
Stem: 3 to 4 inches in length, almost a silky stringy look going up the stem.
Cap: 3 inches in diameter, tannish Greyish gold, round and holes from bugs eating it so must be edible?
Spore print color: Waitin for spore sprint till tonighthttp://
Bruising: Light brown
Other information: Smells like a mushroom you would eat on a salad.

It's not P. salicinus. A species identification would require microscopy and probably DNA analysis - this is most likely in the P. cervinus species complex which is not well understood in North America.

VJP has it head on. It's just a regular Pluteus, similar or identical to P. cervinus. Keep on looking!

I already know what species to look for and have pictures of all the actives in newyork that are said to be found here. I have little information where to go for any species? I guess keep an eye for gymno's and pluteus and pscilocybe, should I check cow pastures and logs and woodchips hail bails etc.. Or is there anything more specific to my region I should look out for?

foenisecii. Note the lack of red in the stem and brownish gills. If you want to be sure spore print them. but the prints will turn out brown or very dark brown.
-------------------- Favorite quote: I want to know if they are active and magic or not. And if they are not active, can i pick them before they are active and then they will become active or do they have to grow till they activate?

I will keep you all posted on this thread thank you for helpin me ID these magical little guys even if the ones I found aren't active still an awesome learning experience. Thanks
