FrankHorrigan said: I'm not sure if that was good practice before or not, but you'll get the best results if you spawn to bulk substrate at 100% while the mycelium is still growing rapidly
Another good technique from recent times that has been giving many people good results is rehydrating the fully colonized grains before spawning them.
There is about 50 pages of good discussion on the topic here too.
It speeds colonization time along quite a bit
Once again, thanks for new and updated info.
The in jar consolidation did have some hype a while ago. I believe the concept was that the mycelium would have ample time to consume the nutrients, and explode upon spawning.
I never noticed any substantial differences. I'm reverting back to spawing at 100% now.
I think I've gained more info from you in 2 hours than I have in a year of sifting through all this madness.

Thanks everyone, so I have no worries? I will place them into fruiting once I seem some pins. It'll be 10 days tomorrow.

I hope I didn't misunderstand Frank's info, but I believe he stated it would be better to fruit once it is 100% colonized (while the (mycelium is still fresh and aggressively growing)...rather then when you see pinning.
I had asked him about fruiting after pins, but he corrected me on that.

But as soon as you get pins.. people tell you to put it into fruiting.
They say usually if you get pins BEFORE it's 100% colonized, it's contaminated. BUT, they also say that coir sometimes only reaches 90% colonization before it starts to pin. I don't know. I usually go by first pins. If it's not at least 90% I think something is wrong; isolate it, and fruit it. Usually get some decent fruits before it gets contaminated.

Waiting for pinning is unnecessary for bulk substrate, and it will perform better when fruited at 100%.
Consolidating is for highly nutritious substrates like BRF. This is a common misconception with grain substrate vs bulk substrate.
Myself and other TCs will tell you there is no need to keep smothering the tub after it is 100% colonized.
FAE is your number one pinning trigger. Give it to it when it wants it
