I'm new to mushroom hunting and they are all so fascinating. Today I was running through the woods with my fiance and I saw these. Like i said we were running so i didn't carry a good camera and all i had was my phone. They aren't BAD but they aren't the best.
Very Humid day around 81 degrees. Found close to a small river in south east Pennsylvania

The only other thing it could be is an Armillaria species that is usually bunched under A. tabescens because they are macroscopically almost the same. In any case, doesn't make much of a difference.

I know a mycologist who did a medical consult for a couple that ate active Gymnopilus mushrooms thinking they were honeys. I think they made a stew and were tripping pretty hard.

Not to derail the thread, but would you say those people considered themselves poisoned by mushrooms?

I think it was considered a case of accidental mushroom poisoning, but he relayed this story to me a few years ago and I can't remember all the details. They were pretty scared, but obviously there was no real danger.
