Thanks to the Feds, most states swap info.
It'll catch up with you eventually. Likely at a very inconvenient time.

It's worse than you think...
Quote:
Forty Five states are members of the Interstate Driver's License Compact. It pertains mainly to DUI and similar driving convictions. Most states do not have the capacity to link all DMV information into a single data bank. Therefore any information shared would depend on how operational procedures of that states's DMV.
As a member of the DLC member states are required to report ticket convictions received by a motorist back to the state where they are licensed to drive. Their own state then determines if this offense will be placed on their driving record and if any points will be assessed. The members of the DLC: include Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming. Thus this leaves the states of Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Tennessee and Wisconsin as non-members though most of these states still have their own agreements with other states to exchange information regarding traffic tickets.

While serious offenses are the main thrust, I can tell you that NJ caught up with me for unpaid surcharges. Six (yes 6) years after the fact. Couldn't get my license renewed until I paid.
It's only a matter of time (and a headache) until you pay. Minimize the pain and pay now.
