Mushrooms: eat or drink tea?

So tonight I have a mushroom trip with a friend planned. This friend has never tripped on mushrooms before. I've used them 3, maybe 4 times myself. Every time I've used them, it was a friend of mine who got them. The shrooms were cut into small slices and wrapped up in plastic. We would boil some water, take it off the fire to let it cool down a bit, then put the mushroom slices in and then let them sit there for about 15 minutes (keeping the heat in the water but not boiling it). Then we would make tea of that and drink it slowly. This has resulted in a couple of insanely fun, interesting and highly philosophical trips.
Today I've acquired some mushrooms myself, but these aren't the ones I remember from my past trips. They're just these small blobs of mushroom (and I guess that's what they should look like :p). The guy who I got them from advised me to eat them; not to make tea of it. He said that making tea of them can reduce the effects of the shrooms. But I've never eaten this stuff, so now I'm wondering: would it do any harm to make tea of these shrooms instead of eating them? I hear they don't taste that great, so I'd rather go for the tea .
Another question: These portions are 10 grams each, but from what I can remember from my last trips I had 15 grams each time. The guy I got them from however advised me to take 5 grams first, then a bit more if we don't feel it enough. This is confusing me! Any suggestions?

Whatever you do, do not give your friend more than 3g for his first time. As for you, I would also suggest 3-4g. You sound very inexperienced no offense, and dont need anymore than that

Powder the mushrooms. Soak for a minute in fresh lemon/lime juice. Add to pot with water. Bring to simmer. Strain. Drink.
I vote tea.

Post pictures so we have a better idea of what you're talking about. Blobs of mushroom? What?
10 grams dry is a hefty fucking dose.
10 grams fresh is not much at all.

You're right, I'm not that experienced . I've done them a couple of times but I've never prepared them myself, hence the questions. I know the effects a bit, but not much about different kinds of shrooms and doses. I must also add that these might not be the shrooms you might be thinking about but I don't know the English word for it. Is truffels an English word?

Oh, truffles.
There's no potency reduction in making tea with them, or regular shrooms if you do it correctly, you can do what you like with them.

Despite the fact he is talking about truffles, mushroom blobs are very common during the first flush. Don't know why but the first flush always involves a shit ton of blobby mutants!

Truffle tea was a complete bust when I tried it - I think the stones are too dense for the water to extract everything, no matter how fine you chop them.
IMO, chop them finely, mix them into some yoghurt. Try about 15g

Are truffles a separate type of mushroom, or are they Cubensis as well, simply grown using different methods?

So we made tea of the stuff. We had a total of 30 grams of truffles and we put 22,5 in the tea (so that would be 11,25 grams for each). A while after we drank it, we began feeling the effects of the truffles. I thought: oh well, I've had some larger portions of a more potent species, so this will be a gentle ride. But oh no it wasn't a gently ride :p. I found myself thinking during the trip: damn, that shit is fucking heavy! And it was. It was fun . Maybe I'll post an extended report later on, but for now I guess it's enough to know that the tea worked well (chopped the blobs into even smaller pieces, simmered for about 15 minutes, drank the tea).
