So I've got an unpaid ticket in California from like 5 years ago, need to get a license out here in another state. Anyone know which states CA DMV trades this info with? I know Ohio is one

There's pretty much no chance there would be any consequences to me not paying it, I'm asking because I have the time to ask. Wasn't the first time I've had a gun pointed at me

$20 ticket for riding a bike without a light on at night when I was a teenager, didn't pay it because like I said when I'm on my way home from work I don't appreciate guns being waved in my face by violent egomaniacs.

pretty much no consequences other than driving on a suspended/without a license, going to jail or at the least, just not being able to get a license if
pay the ticket, your reason for not paying it is ridiculous

They seriously pointed a gun on you for driving a bike without light? (Here it is again: that "I'm so glad to live in Europe"-feeling )
How about writing them a letter explaining the situation and then telling them to stick the ticket up their asses?

Yeah, 19yr old kid riding a bike. Cuffed me at gunpoint and threw me in some bushes, guess thats what I get for being ugly
Don't think the ticket will be an issue, just wondering cause you never know. If they cause trouble over it I'll probably have to pay the ticket though
What part of Europe are you in? I've been over western Europe a bit, pretty nice

Well technically its $0 unless there's some reason I would actually need to pay it, as far as I know CA DMV only trades info with Ohio. Not going to move to Ohio, ever.

Thanks to the Feds, most states swap info.
It'll catch up with you eventually. Likely at a very inconvenient time.

It's worse than you think...
Quote:
Forty Five states are members of the Interstate Driver's License Compact. It pertains mainly to DUI and similar driving convictions. Most states do not have the capacity to link all DMV information into a single data bank. Therefore any information shared would depend on how operational procedures of that states's DMV.
As a member of the DLC member states are required to report ticket convictions received by a motorist back to the state where they are licensed to drive. Their own state then determines if this offense will be placed on their driving record and if any points will be assessed. The members of the DLC: include Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming. Thus this leaves the states of Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Tennessee and Wisconsin as non-members though most of these states still have their own agreements with other states to exchange information regarding traffic tickets.

While serious offenses are the main thrust, I can tell you that NJ caught up with me for unpaid surcharges. Six (yes 6) years after the fact. Couldn't get my license renewed until I paid.
It's only a matter of time (and a headache) until you pay. Minimize the pain and pay now.
