hesitant to take found gymnopilus mushrooms

Hey guys, so I found a patch of mushrooms that have been identified as gymnopilus luteus by a trusted identifier but I am hesitant to eat these. I don't want to put my life on the line to do a drug. I know either I will have an amazing trip, or.. I'll die so I'm trying to be very catious. Is there anything else I should know about these mushrooms, or am I good to go? I just need to be certain. I'm in ct if that helps.

You can research look alikes to gyms and bump your old thread to get some more opinions on them. If thats not enough you can upload them to mushroomobserver.com and somebody there will identify them for you.

Being cautious is good but having thoughts like this is setting yourself up for a bad trip. Get some second opinions and research look alikes until you are confident to eat them without negative thoughts like these.

Take some prints on foil to save for when you cultivate, then dry them and save them for another time. You can always toss them later on if you decide you don't want them. I would recommend studying more about mushrooms in general, getting out there and identifying some regular edible mushrooms, the more you know about mushrooms and identifying in general, the more confidence you will have when you eat an active find. However, if you're not confident in someone enough to trust their opinion, why bother to ask?

They meet all of the descriptions for lutes, however the lutes I'm seeing online look "cleaner". When I get home from work I'm going to pick a smaller immature one that should be easier to identify. and about the bad trip, if I know I'm tripping then I'll know it was really lutes so that won't matter.

"I'll either have an amazing trip, or I'll die.." Probably neither of those will happen. It takes a LOT of Jilms to have a really heady experience, and yeah... You're not gonna die as long as they're actually Gymnopilus...

Shouldn't be an issue if you posted them in the Mushroom Hunting & IDENTIFICATION forum. Spore print and bruising. Check?

Well I don't need to take a spore print to see the spores, but I haven't been able to get them to bruise. I have read that only the pins will bruise and I have not tried with the pins yet. My intellect tells me they are indeed active gyms but my common sense is telling me not to take them.

You should just save 'em up. It takes like 20-30 grams dry for a trip.

Gymnopilus luteus doesnt always bruise. If you want to see it bruise, stuck fresh specimens in the fridge overnight.

This is actually what I intended on doing, but is hashfinger right in saying that it takes over 20 g. Dried? I was shooting for ten I've heard 6-8 dry

Yes potency varies from species to species. I should have mentioned what I was consuming were ID'd as Gymnopilus aeruginosus, which are supposedly weaker than luteofolius. Idk about luteus tho.

Hashfinger, how weak were they? What I call G. luteofolius here is very weak and loses potency quickly upon drying.

I mean, they definitely have psilocybin, and you can feel the effects from that, but the other alkaloids in them are what interest me. Very unique mushrooms the jilms are. I took like this many . maybe a little more, brewed fresh in tea. That was fun. Haven't really tried them again dry yet though.

Oh, I don't have nearly that much but I heard lutes are the most potent?

Perhaps, but you'd still need a lot. Go big or go jilm.

Would about four avg. Sized full mushrooms dried plus 2 full smaller immature (not pins anymore, gills opened up) fresh mushrooms do the trick? So 4 dried and 2 small and fresh. That's gotta be a dose. And how small do they have to be to put in the fridge to bruise? There not pins anymore but would they still bruise in the fridge?

You are overthinking the bruising thing dude. Just put the fresh ones in the fridge. As far as dosage goes... You've got to get a scale if you are going to fuck with psychedelics. Mystery dosage is just a bad idea.
