Have a pine tree forest near where I live that are literally filled with these amanitas.
All the caps are slightly sticky, is this unusual for amanita muscaria? Or are these another specie?

They are Amanita muscaria, sticky cap is normal.

There are no other Amanita species with large red caps and white spots. The lookalikes to A. muscaria are all either edible or contain the same drugs as A. muscaria.

I can defiantly confirm they're Fly Agarics also after munching on a few grams last night
Went back out tonight and gathered some more booty. Some of them got huge overnight

I fan dry them for a day, and then leave them in the oven at 170 for a little over an hour with the door open, all of them get cracker dry.
I only ate about 2 grams and felt the effects, so I assume they didn't lose any potency.
Not really sure how I should preserve them, right now they're just in a sealed plastic bag.

Get a large glass canning jar. Make sure it's air-tight as well. Then put the filled ziplock bags in there. Store in a dark freezer and they will stay good for a long time.
I use this jar from Crate and Barrel (it was only like $8)

You mentioned the caps being sticky? I ran into this as well when I found oodles in pine forests. Is it from all the pine resin just sticking to the cap or is the mushroom oozing its own resinous substance?

Better storage - get real canning jars with wide mouths. There's attachments for seal-a-meal or mity-vac (hand held vac gage) that you pop over the lid and vacuum pack the jar. Keep 'em in the dark.

Oh man, that looks sweet. I'd get that for curing cannabis also. Right now, regular jars will have to do though.

This is what I suspect, when I went out the second time it was raining pretty hard and none of the caps I picked were as sticky. So I figure all the pine resin just washed away.
