I'm liking college too. I'm the hyper nerd though. I sit in the front row of all of my classes and no one sits next to me.:nerd:

Lucky you. At most schools, usually every seat is taken.

That's how it's been for me. I have to show up pretty early to most of my classes to nab that prized first-row seat.

This semester I'm finally signing up for DSPS for my ADHD (after three years on the meds ). This will mean that front-row seats will be reserved for me. :awesome: I think this will be pretty swell; my average distance from the front of the room in any given class seems inversely correlated to my scores in that class. :omgz:

Mathieu,

That is pretty good advice there. I really agree with the dorm thing. There is no other experience like it, except maybe for summer camp. People are inherently lazy, and if you move away from the people, it just isn't the same.

Seriously. I got a small 500-700 person private college and the living arrangements, while at first took getting used to, are amazing. I love having everyone so close by. It's a good time. I'm going to relish my senior year

Almost none of the people I met in college kept in touch with people from dorms. Dorms are fun for a year (I kinda got screwed there), but they're also expensive, shitty living spaces, and pretty romanticized. You become friends with people from dorms like you become friends with people from work. Good for a year and the dorm experience all that. Beyond a year seems pretty pointless to me.

Though I will say, my second year I lived in a house with 10 other guys and it was pretty awesome. So I guess I got a bit of the dorm experience without actually living in dorms. It probably depends a lot more on specific circumstances than just saying "Oh you should/should not stay in dorms for as long as possible".

Dorms are great for freshman because that's where you meet TONS of people. My second year I moved to a house close to campus with 4 other friends. This was lots a fun too

Dorms suck ass compared to having a house / apartment.  I couldn't disagree more about staying the dorms.

i live in an apartment on campus. i love being able to walk to class, but not being able to own a pet, have candles and having an RA is beyond gay for a person my age. but i really don't get hassled and it's a small sacrifice that i have to make for now since i don't own a car or make enough to afford to live elsewhere.

Maybe my school was a little different, but we had a "student ghetto" that encircled the entire campus.  Literally everyone lives within a 15 minute walk of campus (and each other) but it's all landlord owned properties, so you get the best of both worlds.

I lived literally 50m from campus while I went to school.

yeah, i live in an actual apartment building and there are other apartment complexes all around campus. but everything is managed through the school's housing department. there may be complexes that don't have ra's, but i doubt it because all of the ones around me do. i understand why they have the rules that they have, but it's annoying when you're old enough to not need to be supervised in that way. for example, they inspect apartments once a semester to make sure they're clean (and probably to bust kids for weed). it isn't terribly invasive but it's still some bullshit, especially since my place is sterile, highly organized and really quite nice for what it is. my ra just walks right in and turns around so it could be worse i suppose.

that sounds nothing like an 'actual apartment building'

sounds like an extended dorm IMO

fuck that

My school was exactly the same. You didn't happen to go to McGill, did you? The dorms at McGill sucked if only for the fact that you had to climb halfway up a mountain to get to them.

It was fun for the first 3 years or so but I got tired of Kingston after that - it's pretty small and there's only so much to do.  Definitely a fun environment though being so close to all your friends and everyone throwing parties left, right, and center.

Yeah, at some point I imagine the best thing about Kingston is that it's only a two hour drive to Montreal.

Yeah, but Montreal was way cooler than Toronto 25 years ago.
