Question regarding re-dunking cakes for next flush

Hello,
I am planning on redunking my cakes for the next flush. I had a quick question regarding the shrooms that pinned but did not end up growing (think they are called aborts?). Should i scrape off those baby shrooms or keep them there for the next flush? Also, should i scrape off the verm for the re-roll or just dunk them as is? Any feedback is appreciated, thanks!

I suggest picking off aborts...they wont grow anymore. I would dunk them as is, shake them off good, and re roll

I was under the impression that re-rolling cakes after the first flush will open the door to contamination by providing an environment favorable for germination of the foreign spores and bacteria which have inevitably made their way onto the surface of the cakes since birthing.

fully colonized cakes should be rinsed thoroughly before and after each dunk and roll. I do a shake and bake method for my cakes. All in at once and lightly tumble and set in fc and mist till verm sticks. I also do all of my dunks in a new zip lock with a fresh bottle of unopened room temp water. i also just leave them sit on the table in my kitchen. i have NEVER had an issue with contams doing this. Plus, cold shocks are NOT beneficial to PC.

Thanks for sharing! I am probably going to end up re-rolling, will throw the verm in the oven for a bit to prevent any contams just in case

That is a myth. You can cook it but there are spores and bacteria ect... that could land on in processing or from home use that would need to be soaked to germinate any nasties, boiled and then dried. RR states that a fully colonized cake can resist almost anything up to the point where it starts to die.

This was my impression as well, though I don't know if this is fact or fairy-tale...

The majority of the time, the surface of my cakes is dry. I mist them every four hours and have a fan on them constantly with a piece of synthetic fabric spoiling the flow of air so the cakes don't dry out too quickly.
I usually get 6-7 flushes off my cakes before they succumb to contamination. I've come to accredit this to keeping the surface of the cakes fluctuating in conditions so as to discourage germination of surface invaders.
in my opinion, re-rolling cakes just adds more places for foreign organisms to get a foot hold. You can rinse a cake after the first flush all you want but there's going to be invaders lodged into the surface of the cakes whether you like it or not. =/
My experience has shown me that a fruiting substrate doesn't need to be kept near as wet as most people think. There's no such thing as too much air flow as long as you can keep adding moisture when needed. If I had the time, I'd have my set up misting every half hour with direct fan on high at all times. But I don't have the time to keep an eye on all that so I let them dry out when I'm busy and come back to them later to mist or dunk as needed.
Cakes also seem to perform better when they're moisture content varies in sequence with their circadian cycle: Warmer and dryer during the light, cooler and more moist during the dark.
But I've gone off to neither here nor there on a tangent so I'll stop myself here.
