How to salvage? PICS
    #18761335 - 08/26/13 08:41 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

Hi,

I picked my first flush of cubensis last week and let them fan/sun dry for about a day. I then placed them into my drying chamber (plastic crate with mesh "levels", damprid in the bottom). They had been in there for 7 days when I decided to open it today, when I was greeted with this horror (see pic). The bottom level was ALMOST cracker dry, the middle was ehh, but this is the top (furthest away from the damprid). My question is, how do I best go about salvaging this grow? Keep in mind, a fair amount of that blackening is due to spores which had dropped prior to picking, although a fair amount is rot as well.

AS a follow up question, I had some earlier shrooms I picked as they were "ripe" earlier than the rest. They began to rot as I didnt have desiccant at the time, however they were put in their own smaller drying chamber, and are now cracker dry. They still have black colouration however. Does cracker-drying "remove" rot?

I wouldn't salvage that personally. You need to get your mushrooms much drier before putting them in a desiccant chamber. desiccant is better for finishing off drying mushrooms after they're mostly dry already, not as your primary method of drying.

:whathesaid:

You should buy a dehydrator or at the very least a big box fan and dry them out that way before placing them into a desiccant chamber.

Toss those moldy fruits.

Can someone just confirm for me whether this is cobweb? Ill still eat the ones that arent really rotten and just have the fuzz on them. I put them into a better drying chamber and the fuzz seems to have mostly died off.

Okay. Yeah, I've decided that some are a lost cause, I'll salvage what I can though. One of them was so rotten the cap had turned to a honey-like black tar. Pretty devo since its a bout a third of my grow :/
