a blacklight will have the same effect a normal light will have. red and blue light are unassertive to this matter.

I was just going to ask a similar question, when I spotted this one. I was wondering if black lights alone would be sufficient to initiate fruiting. The area where my fruiting chamber is in has both standard as well as black lights, but due to the size and nature of the room, the incandescents bring the temps up to high 80's. With only the black lights on, the temp stays below or right at 80 F. I'm not well versed on the wavelength of lights and was wondering if the black lights provide proper wavelength. Thanks to all!

Found this browsing around the shroomery. Link to the original doccument is here.

4. Light

Psilocybe cubensis is a photosensitive mushroom, meaning certain spectra of light are necessary for pinhead formation and development. Ps. Cubensis responds best to light heavy in the blue- and ultra-violet spectrum, specifically which peak at 370, 440, and 460 nanometers. Red, infra-red, and green light on the other hand are ineffective at initiating pinheads. A few hours of light per day is really all that is needed. If you can see the casings then you are doing fine. Just remember that mushrooms are not like the pot plant that's in your closet; they won't grow bigger or faster with more light :-)

there was a little experiment somebody did... they found pretty much all kinds of light to be suitable for fruiting except UV from a blacklight. don't use one. it won't help.

PF did this sort of thing once and it caused his strain spores to become non-viable. Also produced PF albino fruits....a degenerated strain. Do not use one....oh what the hell am I doing...I do not grow i just know.
and it is fucked up that boxtop from tlg gave me a fucked up rating because I did not buy his spores!
