Rot? Help please
    #18760503 - 08/26/13 04:59 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

I am concerned if this is rot or some kind of contamination.

Details:
Cap is slimy, veil appears to be broken, stems are hollow and mushy. No foul smell detected.

I did the swab test to see if anything rubbed off, and though some of the blueness did appear on the qtip I read a statement by RR which reads as follows:

"That's bruising and the swab/q-tip test is bunk.  Never rely on it. I've seen bruising rub off on a q-tip before, and I've seen green molds not rub off."

The pins i saw on the BRF cakes once I came home from being out of town have been in their jars, sitting in moisture for over a week. Maybe two weeks. I'm just wondering if they're safe to eat and if they were rotten, would making it into a tea be safe? Sounds like a dumb question since I wouldn't add rotten ingredients into any of my food.

To clarify, these are the pins that were sitting in the jars. I only picked them now cause the veil broke and I read if you harvest one that you should harvest the rest as well even if it's a minuscule flush, if you would even call this a flush.

I agree with CC.

They don't show any obvious signs of contamination, the blue color looks like natural bruising - although it is dark for a cube! Must be a blue strain....

Rot will be slimy and wet-looking, mold is fuzzy, so no worries there.

It's B+, and yea I don't think picking them now was the best solution. I should have left them. But they were soggy looking and my newb self thought if it was rot that i should not let it reach the rest of the cake. Regardless I  made tea and it was good.
