Bulk Cakes \ Super Cakes log

This is my first bulk cake project. I figured might as well post a log of this grow whether its successful or not. But things seem to be progressing.
Simple breakdown
Large Glass Cups, not sure the exact size.
Spawn: 3 brf cakes(1/2 pint). Used approx 3/4 from each cake, broke it up, sprayed with 1.5% h202\water. For hydrating spawn and hopefully delay the nasties from growing.
Substrate: Coir\Verm\Straw\Gypsum\Calcium Carbonate 30%\30%\40% Approx 3.25qt split between the large glass cups
Lid: Tinfoil with four holes on the top covered with micropore tape

This should work out well. There is no need for H202. It does kill some nasties, but if you PC'd these right you should have no problem. Did you use a verm layer as a filter? Are you going to lay them on there sides when fruiting for more surface area?

These are BRF cakes broken up and spawned to larger coir cakes. They don't need to be PCed, and they don't need a dry verm barrier.

Bulk substrate should never be sterilized. It was probably pasteurized, and I'm willing to bet OP used a proper pasteurization tek.

Yea.. I broke up my shitty colonized brf cakes, which had a verm layer. The big cups only have sub and spawn. I will probably stand them up, I just may need horizontal space in my SGFC.

Serious question: do you sterlize your substrate?

No idea if a cube can, but I thought it was common knowledge that some mushrooms and plants can push through asphalt under the right circumstances...

I know plants/roots can but I'm keen to learn more about mushrooms doing it. I'm not denying it's possible, I just want to see it

My internet plan has been capped at 256kbps until the end of the month, otherwise I would have already done this by now. Curiosity got the better of me though and I persisted with the frustration... HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! It's totally legit.

In all seriousness though, this hardly relates to OP; maybe we should get back on track?

I didn't put any dry verm for the big glass cups. Im hoping it will colonize fast enough so contam is evaded.
Those pics of mush growing through concrete.. wow. Those are some determined mushrooms. This is also going off track with the thread, but i found this link through one of the google pics. Now this is frickin cool ... http://www.treehugger.com/green-architecture/tiny-house-mostly-made-mushrooms.html

Update. Colonizing. The jar in the middle seems to be progressing faster. There are two different varieties and im not sure which one is what. I may find out when they fruit.
Aug 29 2013

Im not sure how the cakes will come out. Sure hope they'll come out easily.

For a second I thought those looked horrible, like bacteria was keeping the colonization out of certain strata, but then I looked at it closer and realized you layered spawn and substrate. Looking very good, and I'm curious to see how well this turns out.

yea i didn't mix sub and spawn evenly in some area's. I used a fork to get in there mix up.
Im guessing the first one i made i didn't mix consistently (the one that is lagging)
Forgot to mention.. there is one glass cup(ID'ed) which has brf spawn which originally was contam'ed with trich. I cut the brf in half to bypass the contam. Its a crap shoot, we'll see what happens. so far no signs of contam.

boring update... still colonizing. My incubator heater shit the bed. These were left in 65 temps for about 6 days causing slow down in the run. Hopefully they'll be ready for fruiting this weekend. fyi.. i should have posted this thread in the grow log forum... anyways.

Bulk substrate does not require a consolidation period really.
You can fruit right at 100%.

Ok.. Finally an update on these cakes. It was very cumbersome to remove the cakes. Ultimately ya need to install a wire in the glass cups before adding the sub and spawn so you can pull it out without breaking cakes.

Something will need to be rigged to its easier to pull the cakes out. Compared to BRF cakes, these ones are really delicate. I bought these cups at a dollar store, think i paid $2 per cup.
Down the road I'll prob try poo cakes.
