Most of those big leaves are bigger than my entire hand
Quote:
Main Post: I bought 2 salvia cuttings in May '13 and basically almost killed them from not tapering them to low humidity at first, they had about 10 leaves each to start off with but ended up with 4 leaves each after they came back in a humidity dome. I potted them up as they were in small pots, by mixing miracle grow with 2 different well draining potting soils consisting of coconut coir, peat moss, verm & perlite, and sand and a few others. I acclimated them to grow outdoors by keeping them in the dome outside and taking off the lid at night and putting it back on during the day. After a few weeks I just left the lid off, and after it was clear they were acclimated I moved them into a fairly bright area and they've been blowing up ever since. I spray them a few times a day and they soak that water up quick.I wait until leaves are about the size of my hand and start getting burns, these pics are of after I did some pruning they looked way crazy before lol. Here's my babies
here's the bigger one, which is ironically in a smaller pot:
It flopped over a while ago from leaf weight so I'm letting her do her thing
here's the other that isn't doing as well, it seems to be more susceptible to bugs as the larger one never seems to get bug bites

here's the cutting I made from the tip:

I spend a lot of time with my babies and hope these Continuously flourish I am getting a small walk in greenhouse soon to protect against winter and so I can make a lot of cuttings Wish me luck. I will post a pic of them when I first got them, they were quite pathetic looking compared to now

Looking very good mate.
Once well acclimated Divinorum loves good sunlight. Mine were planted where they received full morning sun, shade at noon, then full afternoon sun. That combined with 95% humidity makes for some very happy Salvia

I plan on experimenting with growing salvia hydroponically in the greenhouse, however I plan on keeping the mother plants outdoors as long as possible and will return them outdoors as soon as it's not too cold anymore, I dont want them re-acclimating to high humidity because its a bitch to move them back to growing outside. I will be keeping all the cuttings in the greenhouse though, and will be making as many cuttings as I can I hope to add some other awesome plants like kratom, damiana, papaver somniferum, etc
They pretty much get full sun during the day except for a few hours where the tree in my backyard gives them indirect sunlight, and I notice new growth every day
Ive noticed the trick to growing them is to make sure they have a good amount of root space but Not too much, and keeping the soil moist but not soaked or dry, but let it dry out a bit before watering. Although me misting 3-10 times a day tends to keep the soil perfect I made a habanero spray to deter bugs but it seemed to burn the leaves I tested it on, so Im gonna try neem oil with castile soap next

I've made 2 more cuttings, I plan on making 5-10 total by the end of the summer. I am experimenting with leaving the cutting outdoors and misting occasionally compared to introducing them to high humidity then weening them off, I will post my results if people are interested I turned my pressure cooker into a small humidity dome using a shower cap, it actually works really well. I am leaving it slightly off so humidity isn't too high, as they're already acclimated to low humidity.
I plan on buying a portable walk-in greenhouse, maybe I can root my cuttings and grow some shrooms in the same room

Just finished making my first extract, used ~11.5g of foliage, hand crushed, then covered with acetone, agitated and then poured onto 1g of dried foliage. I only washed twice. The acetone ended up being VERY dark green-almost black near the end, and now the dry extract looks just like any other branded extract ive seen havent tested it out yet, I will update later when I do

That'd be great, keep us posted my man. I never had much luck taking care of salvia. Must have tried about three times and I failed miserably every one of them so it was nice to read about how you treated your babies
So yeah, make sure you write a trip report of your first self-extracted salvia journey!

Thanks for showing your interest solstice The plants are probably about twice the size now, there are 5 main branches coming off the main stem of the bigger plant as the main stem fell over from weight. And there are 4 main stems on the smaller one now, and all the new "main stems" are about 5in tall! and this is all new growth since the pics I took for the thread I'll take some pics of the plants and the cuttings (got 6 now) later

When I first got the plants, the stem was no thicker than a #2 pencil and they had like 4 leaves each on them, the guy had obviously tore all the leaves off except 4 before selling them to me. the bigger plant always grew at an angle, and after some leaves started growing it fell over. The stem still hasn't gotten much thicker, except for the new growth at the tip. But all the branches coming off the main stem are getting thick as fuck!! one is almost as thick as my thumb. The other one never looked too good, its stem was thinner than the other and it was only sending out new shoots around the tip of the plant and like 2 little pairs of leaves at the very bottom, I snipped off the tip about a month ago and BOOM! theres like 6 new "main branch" offshoots coming from the base (the base fattened up too, I can barely even see the base now as its COVERED in little offshoots coming out in random spots! Not even at the nodes!) and some of them are almost as fat as my thumb as well. I will hopefully be making a video of the 2 mother plants and my 6 cuttings (maybe more by the time I actually make a video lol)

salvia is pretty easy to grow and propagate. mine have been getting eat up by little caterpillars but I really don't care because they'll survive and I'm absolutely in no way hard up for some salvia. No shit - if you have a plant or two you can propagate the hell out of them and you will never be out. And good freshly dried plain salvia leaf is more than enough. I've had my shit blown out of the water on numerous occasions from just a single bowl of plain leaf from my plants.

No doubt, I started with 2 small unhealthy cuttings and now have 2 flourishing monsters and a bunch of cuttings I have noticed caterpillars before but I just relocate them and kill whatever bugs I find in the greenhouse and ive noticed very minimal bug bites on the leaves. Ive never heard of powerful effects from smoking plain leaf but I guess I should start trying eh?

If you make a 5x or 10x extract its pretty easy to manage your dosage to get a feel for the salvia trip before trying higher doses. For some reason kids will buy a bag of 40x and take a fat bong rip not knowing what to expect. Ive personally never had a bad salvia trip because I prepare myself for whats to come, except the first time I ever smoked it I had pins and needles feeling all over my body and some parts of my body felt like they were being burnt.
Ever since I started growing Salvia its been nothing but positive for me, although it makes me feel wonky and weird.

I would give it a try some time! I am still working my way to break through with DMT (i am afraid big doses after a huge mushroom trip i had in the past)..
Anyway sorry to ruin your thread mate, i would get my hand on some clones of salvia in the near future!

Any idea why on some of the stems, the nodes are getting as far as 4 inches apart? The biggest stems are probably at least a couple inches taller now. I put them on the rack under where they are in the pics, because I'm getting worried about the top-heaviness lol. The plants are getting tall, over a foot now, and some of the branches are starting to lean They are growing better than I could have ever expected.

I will agree with Andjew.
Maybe taking of the shade cloth for the days with not that much sun, i dont know anything on growing salvia, if it needs light bat not direct sun, then still taking off the shade cloth those days, would be good.

Well its been storming here for the past week or two and isnt expected to change much, the sun only comes out for like 15 minutes at a time if that. So I dont think the shade cloth has much to do with it lol Im gonna get some fluorescents to hang up so supplemental lighting I will be leaving town for a week on Friday, my girlfriend will only be able to come over and mist the plants once or twice while I'm gone. I'm hoping they'll do fine without me
