First real trip up north (California)

So I had been wanting to plan a trip to San Francisco for a while now but because of financial responsibilities I havent been able to.
Well last week I seen that Tame Impala is touring in Cali again and it was between LA, Santa Barbara, and SF (SF being the furthest from me) but I knew it had to work out for me so I bought the SF tickets for my girl and I so we're committed to this now.
Her brother works for a hotel chain so we SHOULD be getting really good prices on rooms, and my gfs car fills up on $25 and gets 37mpgs so that would be our main worries.
Ive been to SF before when I was younger and with fam so it was pretty boring. So Im posting this to ask for advice on some cool shit to see/ or do on this trip. Mostly cheap/free things because either way I want to do more of the nature-y stuff like visit the parks around there but it is my gfs first time so she'd like to explore the city so I was wondering what you guys recommend. Also i'd be down to have someone from shroomery as a city tour guide or w.e haha
Also, any spots that let you chill with a view of the city? I LOVE to spark a few jays at spots like this.

I went there a few weeks ago. They have a lot of free stuff to do. My favorite things were Muir Woods and Mount Tamalpais hikes, biking over the golden gate and through golden gate park, and the scenic drive on highway 1. I liked it so much there that I'm planning on moving somewhere near San Fran that is affordable enough for my income.

Might want to go up a bit higher up 101 to the true N. California. Besides, it's much more beautiful up there.
Don't know why I say true N. California... but that's just how i roll.

Hit up the Avenue of the Giants just south of Fortuna, then stop in Eureka and have a beer and some food at the Lost Coast Brewery, great food, awesome beer, really trippy place.

The whole central coast is amazing. Like said before, If you have time, drive up the highway 1 and stop at some of the parks on your road trip.

I always liked "Ano Nuevo" State Park near Santa Cruz. Or the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Howland Hill road out of Crescent city is a nice scenic drive.
Quote:
Howland Hill Road Mostly unpaved; Motorhomes/RVs and trailers not advised.
Distance & Duration: 10 miles, one way (from Crescent City, Calif. to junction with U.S. 199 near Hiouchi, Calif.); 45 minutes.
Directions: From Crescent City, Calif.: drive south 1 mile on U.S. 101 and turn left (east-northeast) onto Elk Valley Road; continue 1 mile and turn right (east) onto Howland Hill Road; after ~1½ miles the road becomes unpaved as it enters Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park; continue another 5½ miles on Howland Hill Road until it becomes Douglas Park Road (paved); after ~1½ miles turn left onto South Fork Road; after ½ mile South Fork Road junctions with U.S. 199 just east of Hiouchi, Calif.
Description: Just a couple miles west of Crescent City, an unpaved stretch of Howland Hill Road offers motorists an intimate encounter with the towering old-growth redwoods in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Numerous pull-outs and trailheads along the way, including the Boy Scout Tree Trail and Stout Grove.
Then you pop out at the Smith River, ice cold beauty.
