Why do you need it dry? Just get it a little wet and PC it in quart jars with tyvek filters. I know it totally sounds like overkill but other methods are not always 100% for a friend of mine. If you really need it totally dry then I'm not sure you can really sterilize it like that, you might be able to. But microwaving is enough for a lot of people and if that's all you have...

that's why you moisten it with water, as you nuke it the water evaporates and makes it nice and steamy (great way to clean the inside of your microwave btw. )

it doesn't need to be sterile for what you're using it for, but if you want to, it's going to be wet anyway, so you may as well wet it and PC it.

If you want to really sterlize dry vermiculite, dump a bag into a large pot, fill with water. Their should be at least 2x more water by volume than vermiculite. Boil (as high a temp as you want) for an hour. Drain and dry in the oven at 300 degrees. It absorbs ALOT of water, but it comes out as a great dry vermiculite layer. I've taken vermic out of the bag, weighted it, and just dried it, and it lost a great deal of weight to water. If it has this much water, and you are doing a "DRY" vermiculite layer, then you aren't doing what ytou need to be doing to protect your substrate. I recomend this for all PF-style vermiculite jars

howzabout wrapping the desired amount in foil, then baking at 450 for 60 minutes. that will kill anything. let it cool and the verm will be sterile until you unwrap the package.

Probably not a good idea since the verm will become very dark and overbaked and will probably loose some of his propriety... I would simply put the verm in mason jars and PC it at 15 psi for 70 minutes.
You still can wrap it in foil and bake it but do not exceed 260F (15 psi gives around 260F) or maybe 280F and bake it for a little more than an hour. It's gonna be sterile.
Just my opinion.
