Looking at used cars, anything good or bad to say? I would ideally like to get a high quality compact car.

The mpg isn't worth it for a car that gay looking, just my opinion. Civics get as good gas mileage and don't need to take premium. If you want a really fuel efficient car get something different, just my opinion though.

They have the same drive train as a neon and they will have problems with the timing chain (belt really) at around 100k miles if it isnt changed. I have seen some great aftermarket parts for it that makes it look more like the old cars like they tried to simulate.

Anyone bagging on the Mini Cooper has never really driven one. That car is a work of art from an engineering perspective. Amazing suspension will fuck the shit out of any other car. Huge torque and engine strength. Incredibly responsive. My gf has a convertible s series. There is no way I would pay that kind of money for any car, but if I was, a coop would definitely be on the list.

hahaha yeah fucking right dude, whoever told you that has either never driven one of those, or never driven a go-cart....those things are fucking solid steel boats..i believe thats a chevelle SS or a chevelle malibu SS, they are fast in straight lines but they handle like dick
whoever you heard that shit from is a retard who has no idea about cars or completely overhauled his frame/suspension
OP - as far as a mini cooper goes in my book, its for gays and chicks. get a focus or something not so feminine
edit: unless its an original then its cool, or if its the exact one mark wahlberg drove in the italian job....then its boss

yeah, the mini probably does feel like a go-cart, a friend of mine had a supercharged miata that was like a super go-cart....id imagine the supercharged mini cooper S is probably a lot like that...it would be great fun

Subarus are notorious for breaking down and are also very expensive to fix, as are most high end cars.

I will agree with that. It seems like most cars these days require work at the manufacturer because every single part is designed by autocad software to fix exactly within millimeters of the next part. A mini is no exception, so if you aren't we'll insured or leasing, expect to pay a lot for maintenance. That is one thing I will miss in the future. In the 70s you could fix a Volkswagen with a potato if you had to. These days you need a million different specialized tools specific to one car

Subarus are not notorious for breaking down if the car was decently maintained by previous owner. I just got my wrx last Nov with 135k miles have driven it like a champ thru canyons and have not had ONE problem with the car.

I believe they are well built vehicles that are over priced.
In the sub-compact market it's hard to find a car right now with as many luxury options. They also have really reliable motors and transmissions with the option of getting the turbo version which is always a plus.
The sub-compact market has been growing steadily in the past few years. I believe the US will see an influx of these cars from different makes saturate the market. I would wait a year or two to buy a car in this category. They will be much cheaper than Minis while having comparable style and performance.

Also it seems as if the cooper has had the same basic chassis, engine and body with no major updates to the design since it's introduction over 6 years ago.
It really starts to show its age when compared to something like the ford focus st.
