GT Bulk Sub
    #18754406 - 08/25/13 08:29 AM (10 years, 5 months ago)

I have a jar of completly colonized gt, and I want to move it to bulk sub. I have fine wood chips, about 2x the size of saw dust, but a good deal smaller than bagged mulch. Would that work? I don't really want to go out and spend a bunch of money buying stuff...

If you were making a master slant/culture you could introduce wood to cubes.

As for fruiting... Don't do wood. Coco coir, vermiculite... 8 bucks total.

Good luck

Love gt's!

aight. I guess it is time to go shopping. Do any mushrooms (active or edible) do well on wood? I am not sure whether to take some anyway,

The majority of commercially grown, edible mushrooms (asides from most actives and agaricus) are grown on sawdust, sometimes with the addition of hardwood chips.

As has been said, coir/verm is a great start for cubes. They don't like wood.

The stuff I use is labeled fine, and works great. I saw coarse once and it looked too chunky to just mix into coir easily. I got my first couple bags from Lowes, before finding a garden shop locally that gave me 100 pound bags for $25.
