I read the thread. Don't really have any good advice, except pharmaceutical meds are probably not the answer to your problem.

I break my reading into smaller portions.
One chapter each night before bed. Seems to be a good recipe. Depending on the book, I get about one book per month read.

Therapy is a good option as long as they aren't dicking u around... try meditating... I think add is bullshit 9 outta 10 just my opinion but I've seeen a lot of smart kids get fucked up from those medications psychiatrists shove down little kids throats so their parents don't have to deal with them. Sry I've got a very biased oppinion on that subject... I'm sure there are legit cases who need meds but not as much as I've seen.

Trial and error.
Seek professional help for ADD testing to eliminate a potential cause if you are concerned. Most likely there are alternatives if medication isn't the kind of treatment you are looking for.

If you have ADD than I do from your description.
Reading is hit and miss with me, just like watching a subpar movie. Why waist your time. If the book is good you will kill it, if its't fuck it, go jerk off or something.
I think to many people want to blame ADHD/ADD/AXXXXX for some reason they can not grasp and since everyone else has it... you must too.
Read what you really like to read and go for that, not everyone has the same tastes. Me, I would rather would watch game of thrones than read it. I also would rather read The Stand than watch it.

I think the only people that can read an entire book in one sitting, are people in jail.

Failing to read a book in one haul does not imply ADD folkz. That's just nonsense. OP if you smoke pot, quit that and try reading again. Also switch off your phone if you want to focus on the book.

The lack of patience people have trying to find natural cures when simply taking a pill could solve your issue. Sadly, I admit falling victim to such.

... Is this really a problem? Not asking that to be snide I'm really reconsidering after reading this thread if it's a more important issue than I've been perceiving it.
I've always felt the same way, even if I like a book it's very hard for me to stay focused on it even if I ration it down in small portions, I never finish books except that one time that I had to for college. Same with video games, I rarely if ever finish them even if I think they're really fun games.
But I never thought it was an issue. Never thought I had ADD or linked it with depression. I just thought it was a quirk about me, a weakness that I just needed more practice with, that I would take baby steps towards just like I'm taking baby steps towards learning to perform a hand-stand. I think staying focused is something some of us don't quite learn in childhood for one reason or another and we kind of have to self-teach it in adulthood.
If you worry about not focusing it's going to be harder to focus, so if at some point you find yourself at the stage where you're reading a line over and over and not taking it in, just take a very short break and don't think too much of it. Go to the toilet, have a snack, walk around outside for a little while. Even just a minute or two away from the book can give your mind the time it needs to get back into the zone of reading. I've found at least that you'll be able to go for longer stretches after a while. Just be sure to remember to go back to your book and not forget.
I too have fought with depression much of my life so maybe it is related. I don't know.
