First fruits of the season!
    #18757638 - 08/25/13 10:56 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

so... uhhhmmm.... yeah

found my very first choice edibles of the year last Wednesday....  some little chanterelles---  in  a spot i have never visited before, growing in exactly the spot where you'd expect to find them--  around a rotted old growth stump down in the duff.

it was some 3rd growth replanted logging lands, really a bitch to walk in---- little twigs slapping me in the face and tree goobers falling down inside my collar and and stuff like that.

but there they were--- just a little handful of them, and I brought them home because I was so excited to find them there.

a fellow forrager tells me i'm lucky to find them on logging lands because some logging companies will douse the lands with herbicides and mushrooms wont grow.

FYI---  ARCHERY SEASON FOR ELK is now open in many places, so if you go on a forray into areas where the game are at WEAR YOUR BLAZE ORANGE or at least try to be obvious so you dont get yourself shot.  Game seasons are different in different places, sometimes even in neighboring valley.  It is wise to be aware, and tread cautiously

cheers and bon apetit
