What an awesome fucking place. A learning institution where thousands of kids could learn exactly what they want and do exactly what they want. You're out for your own self and there is NOTHING stopping you from doing anything in the world (hyperbole, you get it though...).
I didn't really know what I was going into, but I decided to be make the absolute best of it and I realize, after 3 days of awesomeness that I have an AMAZING 4 years (and beyond) ahead of me.
How are you all liking college?

I love college too! But being a poor I can only afford to go to the community college after waking up at 4 and working 10 hours.
Also this song is obligatory

I went to Community College for two years commuting there because my High School grades weren't high enough to get me into a University. I had a tendency to generally not care about anything I was learning throughout both years.
I went through periods of going to class really stoned and just spacing out the entire time.
I also went through a period of just sleeping in the parking lot instead of actually going to class.
I can't go back next semester because my GPA is too low.
That was my college experience.
lol

college is cloggage.
you can learn any amount of things in the curriculum, online; yes, without the fervent listless souls colliding in alleyways, but nonetheless, if the endeavor is about attaining knowledge, college has got to the most gyp institutions ever.
here pay out the ass to deal with jock-douche bags and learn things you can learn for free online!
(sorry to sully your enthusiasm, OP, don't let me accomplish any such misdeed. i'm glad you like college, i just hate it's many foundations. i think it COULD be an awesome thing, though, for all that's worth. )

I've been pushing through the lower-division requirements for my major (neuroscience) in community college for the past three years. I've done three years of general science coursework (genchem, ochem, and genbio), all I've got left is the statistics, English, and general physics.
I have another year to go, which means now is the time to start filling out applications for "real" university. I'm a bit nervous ATM because my GPA isn't exactly sterling, and I really want to ultimately go on to get my PhD and be a major player in the cutting-edge brain research. If this doesn't work out I figure I'll go to some sort of engineering program at a vocational school-- not my first choice, but not a bad one all the same.
There's the general opinion here that you can learn anything online, and this is certainly true, but institutions of higher learning provide several things you can't get anywhere else-- namely, the discipline-from-above of rigorous coursework (seriously, I would never be able to self-educate to the same degree of completion and aptitude), the prestige necessary to have your questions and hypotheses taken seriously by the scientific community, and the opportunity to have an army of graduate students at your beck and call.
Wish me luck, guys.

I start tomorrow. Just spent all weekend stocking up on hygiene/cleaning supplies for the next 4 months and got new clothes for the family and paid off half my credit cards with our school checks. Hell, we got 7,400 just in grants alone not including the loans we pulled out. Its going to be a good semester. I am finally taking classes that involve my major.

Thanks, and me too. All I know for sure is that I've got years of thankless effort ahead of me, but I'm quite certain of my goals so that will be the easy part. The hard part will be conquering my social anxiety to the extent that I can network properly.

Don't feel comfortable answering, but it's a school of around 10,000 kids and it's one of the most beautiful and outdoorsy cities around. I love it

Im getting a Bachelors in Business management. Im thinking I will start working on additional certificates outside of my college in my jr year of school. Got to have my resume looking good to get a job in this competitive market. I cant be going to college to get out with no job or a low paying job. Otherwise I will be in the same place I was before getting in college..... in poverty

I was kinda torn between majoring in Philosophy, which i'm very interested in, or something that i'd be more likely to get a job with after school.
I chose Philosophy, and there aren't many jobs for people with that degree. I'll probably end up teaching.
