there is no perfect drunken spot, there is only a period of euphoria followed by a period of self-reflection.

most people, OP, don't wanna get to the self-reflection part of the drinking experience, so they keep drinking till they feel like they might die.

Usually me feeling awesome and me puking are worlds away in the sense of drinks and I can stop it well before it happens because it does not take all that much to get me "social drunk" and maintain a good buzz. If I'm starting to slur a lot and if I start losing my balance it's probably time to stop because things will only go downhill from there.

The trick is maintaining your buzz and drinking slowly. I'm really really good at sipping on drinks throughout the night, regardless of what it is. Maybe try slooowing down the drinking. When you start to feel yourself get euphoric and social, start sipping and work on maintaining that state of mind.

Agreed. For me, tipsy, buzzed, drunk, quite drunk, and stop drinking now you fucking idiot are very clean, definitive states for me. My best friend, however, goes from a mild buzz to STUPID drunk at the flip of a switch. Weird.
Some nights, I can definitely drink the first 3 pretty quick, then slow down for the rest of the night and never get slurring or too stupid, but some nights, the party is really raging, people are practically feeding you shots (in adittion to the beers you yourself are drinking) and, well... you all know how that ends up...
