invitro or birthing?
    #18756103 - 08/25/13 05:26 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

hey guys I have a question. from what I believe invitro is where the shrooms grow inside of the jar correct? is that easy to do? does it bring in more shrooms? or should I just birth them and use SGFC? thanks :mushroom2:

Years ago I think RR said invitro fruiting is best done with only a small amount of spawn like 1-2 inches, I don't recall exactly.  But the remainder of the empty jar creates a good fruiting environment.  For small amounts of mushrooms it might be good.  For bulk, probably not the best way.  I'm testing out the old invitro method right now.  It'll probably be a month or more before I know if works.

alright thanks. btw when I harvest them from the SGCF should I always let 1 shroom mature so it can drop spores to do a second flush?

Letting spores drop doesn't produce a second flush, it actually hinders later flushes. However it is good for making spore prints. Just dunk for 24 hours between flushes.

No the spores wont create successive flushes. The mycelium will produce flushes until the substrate is exhausted of nutrients... allowing a mushroom to mature and drop spores will just create a mess, if you're going to let a mushroom fully mature it would be better to take a spore print so you can create more syringes or trade etc
