ID request : These are Amanita Amerimuscaria right?
    #18756234 - 08/25/13 05:52 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

I think these pics should be self explanatory
Found in a mixed wood, lots of birch trees around, mossy ground

Friend wants to eat em but I want to make sure they're the real deal first!

I believe they are either Amanita Amerimuscaria or Amanita Flavoconia (Yellow left-overs from universal veil at the bottom of stem?)

I know next to nothing about Amanita but I would say flaviconia before amerimuscaria.

I hope an old hand clears this up for you soon.

Not sure if they are exactly A. flavoconia or a close species, but they are not A. muscaria.

Boy, those are a little tricky but I would have to say A. flavaconia. The base of the stem just doesn't look quite right for them to be A. amerimuscaria.

The tricky thing is that they do have a slightly bulbous base and they kind of have the concentric rings towards the top of the bulbous part. Plus the stems are nearly white. But they look a little small and lack any indication of remnants of the partial veil.

But more pictures would be helpful for a positive identification. Also, did you find any larger individuals? Do any of them have a partial veil? Do any of them have yellow stems? Did you get any pictures of the mushrooms during the button stage?
