North Mississippi identification assistance [identified]
    #18756055 - 08/25/13 05:15 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

Habitat: Low-lying area of cow pasture near creek ford on older pile of dung.

Gills: Dark.

Stem: Long, narrow, varying shades of tan and gray.

Cap: Diameter is currently less than two centimeters. They were around one centimeter in diameter last night.

Spore print color: Black.

Bruising: None that I noticed.

I've been trolling for a week or so, and thought I narrowed down the species to Panaeolus cinctulus, but after taking pictures and comparing them I'm not so sure. I appreciate any help in identification!

Thanks for the quick ID! I was just following the instructions WRT my request format.

As an aside, these little guys were growing on another pile of dung not far away, and looked different enough from the smaller P. papilionaceus to warrant a separate picture.

They were too small to get any more detail. Worth it to monitor their growth?

I'm not sure what those are, they're too young and the picture is too small to get enough details.  They could be some inky cap (Psathyrellaceae) if the spores are blackish and they deliquesce with age.

Depends on what you want to do with them, if you want to id them,  then yes.  If you are looking for edible or hallucinogenic mushrooms then no, they are neither.
