Refusing to drink any more when you're at that perfect drunken spot

This is one of the hardest things to do for me. Am I alone here?
I'm like, okay, I drank the perfect amount, I'm feeling awesome and another drink will make me puke. But then I can't help myself, I drink more, and I either end up puking or just feeling shitty. Why don't I possess this drunken willpower? Is this a thing?

You're not alone. It's called alcoholism.

No I'm talking within a single drinking session. Like at a party or something

Getting older kinda helps as hangovers get worse so I try to limit how much I drink but I usually lack self control...

I am too. You don't need 4 DUI charges and a ruined life to be an alcoholic. The inability to stop when you want to is a sign.

If you drink enough, you don't get hangovers regardless of age.

I don't think I'm an alcoholic even though I drink often, but I do get hangovers and feel sick the next day if I drink too much.

It's also a sign of being drunk.

I've actually gotten so much better lately at restraining myself. Sometimes I will go to the bars with the friends and just drink like 1-2 and it's good too because then i don't ask people to punch me in the face!

Infer what you want from the signs. But your OP says you can't quit when you start and that's the definition of an alcoholic. Just sayin'.
And if you drink enough alcohol the hangovers dissipate. I swear. But you gotta be a chronic alcoholic, the kind that needs alcohol to start the day, lest the shakes set in.

Usually me feeling awesome and me puking are worlds away in the sense of drinks and I can stop it well before it happens because it does not take all that much to get me "social drunk" and maintain a good buzz. If I'm starting to slur a lot and if I start losing my balance it's probably time to stop because things will only go downhill from there.
The trick is maintaining your buzz and drinking slowly. I'm really really good at sipping on drinks throughout the night, regardless of what it is. Maybe try slooowing down the drinking. When you start to feel yourself get euphoric and social, start sipping and work on maintaining that state of mind.

Usually, I tend to continue drinking after I am already drunk because each drink feels like it gives me a boost so that I don't just pass out. It seems like it's keeping me awake when in fact I believe this has to be just the opposite. That's my reasoning while drunk, you think the more you drink the sleepier you will get but it feels to not be the case. I can't explain it but that's how it usually goes for me anyway.

I'm not an alcoholic, not yet anyway. I'm addicted to cigarettes, weed and yerba mate so I'd know.

I used to have this problem when I drank liquor. It hasn't really been an issue since I switched to only drinking beer and the occasional bottle of wine.

If you really aren't any type of alcoholic, then it should be extremely easy for you to get to that "perfect level" and stay there or call it a night. Most people can, so why is it so hard for you?

You just don't know how to drink yet, you never puke after that.

I could never stop. I am sooooo grateful that I don't drink. Fuck. I have more than enough problems in my life that require frequent amounts of my time. It could get in the way of my increasingly-serious marijuana usage that I finally manned up and put an end to the other day... As far as toking during the day goes at least... Hey sobriety is over-rated...

That is very hard for me. When I stop drinking, I get tired and irritable so I basically have to go to sleep or keep drinking . I never used to have that problem; I think it's gotten worse with age.
