No oxygen in 100% colonized jars
    #18755636 - 08/25/13 03:29 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

I plan on pcing 20 jars worth of rye today but I only have 11 self-sealing lids.

However I have ~15 fully colonized jars that need to go into the fridge since I want to do some g2g transfers.

Would it be fine if I took the lids off the colonized jars, put normal lids on them and stick them in the fridge?

If so, how long could I keep them in the fridge?

No, that will drop contams into your clean jar, which will germinate in your bulk. Everything inside the jar needs to be sterile.

Poke holes in your extra lids and stuff them with Polyfil or cover with Tyvek.

If they are fully colonized and so it under a flo hood or a still air box and check out BALLS' plastic caps.  You can't do a straight lid though.  It has to be for grains or brf casue they need holes in them or they explode.  But they can take the heat of the PC no problem.
