I find so much of classical music to be beautiful and very interesting, capable of appealing greatly to both sides of my mind. It is really unbelievable to think about just how much has been composed and how much of that is considered to be of a high quality, both structurally and emotionally. Is architecture more about art or about physics and proportions?
Check out this thread for some great music: Compositions of J.S. Bach

I like it too, but not the frilly flowery stuff that reminds me of posh English folk on horses (I don't like Mozart's compositions for example, from what I've heard). I especially can't stand the harpsichord.
I don't know any titles or artists, I've only heard stuff and thought "that sounds really good". I usually like something that sounds dark, atmospheric, slow and with as little percussion as possible but also very uplifting for the soul. Something that reminds me of sleeping in soil and leaf litter in a jungle. It's so amazing. When I was little I used to have a CD of assorted classical pieces with a track that was just like this. I lost it and at the time I was so upset. Couldn't understand how I lost it because it should never have left my bedroom.
I like the complexity of a lot of long classical music, especially stuff meant to be played by a classical orchestra. I like how it doesn't usually come in obvious and predictable verse-chorus-verse-chorus-break-chorus pattern a lot of modern pop and music like that follow. I like how the music if progressive and changes tone, tempo and volume throughout the piece. The atmosphere from the start can be completely different to the middle or end. There's just so much variety in one single composition. I love music that's unpredictable like that.
That's my thoughts on it.

Some classical music I enjoy profoundly. Some I don't. I love beautiful, lush, complex string arrangements.
I like the kind of classical music that has some kind of recognizable structure and foreshadowing. I don't like the stuff that just sort of meanders to and fro

Bethoven vivaldi bach
Sounds good on any speaker
Classical and trance music plays as good on a 10 $ speaker as a 100$ I had a 2000 $ setup but my mono pc speaker of good build quality plays those genres better in this small room Speakers were too large for the room
The trance is in the brain You can be there with only one speaker Even if you cant hear on one ear
Any speaker can play trance music well, even pc speakers They like smooth sinus curves And so do my ears

I've never liked what I've heard from Mozart either (with the exception of the first movement of the Requiem)
Over use of harpsichord and brass instruments is a huge turn-off for me, generally speaking

As so many of those here are into guitar virtuosity, these may be appreciated?:

Raised since 3 on Cello. Performed Mahler Beethoven Sibelius. Wouldnt trade it for anything...gives me such appreciation for all classical. Playing Beethovens 6th and 9th in a Symphony hall was orgasmic

Thank you. It's not what I was thinking but it's definitely still something I'll put on my playlist! I like music like this too. I kid you not it's the cherry on top of my night, so I appreciate you sharing this.
Someone put a comment on youtube "It's it werid to think that once upon a time this music was new". It must have been absolutely mind-blowing when it was new.

Jeff Mills played together with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Montpellier, for the 20th anniversary of the Pont du Gard's inclusion in the world heritage list by UNESCO. Together with the orchestra, Jeff Mills performed his own compositions, orchestrated by Thomas Roussel for this occasion. In 2007, he was invited by the movie director Claire Denis to create the sound environment of the exhibition « Diaspora » at the musée du quai Branly in Paris.. That same year, Jeff Mills received the title of « Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres» from the French ministry of Culture. In 2008, Jeff Mills was commissioned to create a comtemporary installation for 100 Year Anniversary of the Futurist Manifesto at the Pompidou Center. At the Sonar Festival in Barcelona, Jeff Mills and « Mad Mike Banks » were together again for an historical performance called « X-102, Rediscovers the Rings of Saturn », mixing video and music. Always busy, Jeff Mills is involved in numerous projects at this time. The next event: For the 100 Year anniversary of the famous director, Cecil B. DeMille, he'll perform a Cinenamix at the French Cinematheque in Paris April 2nd.
Roughly four months ago I saw him perform on a festival and he's coming back too... he's going to incorporate classic music for this set. i'm very happy

Awesome, I played cello for awhile. Only covered a few pieces though, Bach's 1-4th cello suites, Beethoven's 3rd cello sonata, Schubert's Arpeggione, also Rachmaninoff's 3rd piano concerto which I transposed by ear (mix of piano and orchestra parts for solo performance). Mahler is a great musician, particularly fond of his 2nd 4th and 9th symphonies.

Beautiful music but I feel like I'm putting on airs when I listen to it. I'm just not that sophisticated.

i enjoy much classical music, i don't often find myself in the mood to put it on but i will now and then. i'm also kinda picky, not to say i'm particularly well-versed in classical music but while there are plenty of composers i like, there are at least as many that don't do a damn thing for me...and the latter includes many popular ones such as mozart. i fucking hate mozart. i'll take a bit of the old ludwig van over mozart any day of the week.
here are some off the top of my head:
arnold schoenberg - chamber symphony no.1 op.9
hector berlioz - symphonie fantastique
igor stravinsky - the rite of spring (the music & choreography were so outlandish for their time that when it debuted the crowd rioted and burned down the opera house - no shit)
gustav holst - the planets

OP one thing to keep in mind with classical music is the dick measuring critics do, its irrelevant. Many try to portray the music as constantly moving forward, as if there was something missing from earlier music and each generation were learning divine secrets the previous lacked
If a musician didn't "innovate" with some technical point like inventing Napoleonic 6ths, they're deemed largely irrelevant. Its true that we have to look at hundreds of years of music to pick out people worth listening to, performing, and preserving but very few of these innovations are tangible to the artist or listener. What is important and always has been is the composition and the performer, the music not the mathematics.
