Bison Burgers
    #18755234 - 08/25/13 01:50 PM (10 years, 7 months ago)

So I found some Bison Burgers at costco. They were pricy as heck, but have never eaten bison before :pokerawe:

It was good :datass: But was it $8 a lb good? :strokebeard:

I can get grass fed, free range beef here in the PNW for DIRT cheat for what you are buying (around 3.99 a lb). I dont think I can justify the oil milage to ship out meat from colorado, all for the bragging rights of eating bison

Thoughts?

I'll get bison if it's an option at a restaurant, it's too expensive to eat day-to-day though.

You know, you can buy lion, zebra, and other exotic meats online as well.

Im not sure where that hippie quote came from, or if it was you trying to be "deep" :bored: But I have NO problem eating the meat of an animal that had a good life, and was killed in a humane fashion. To do otherwise is downright disrespectful not only to animals but to people all over the world.

God Bless MEAT :morningtoke:

Same here.....I've tried to cut my intake of meat down a bit in recent time, and try to limit it to animals that were raised on open land & not in corrals/cages...and animals that feed directly off the land, and not fed a bunch of plain corn & grains.

The difference in taste between corn fed cows in corrals, and free range cattle roaming around eating an assortment of grasses is huge...free roaming cattle is also better for the land, and no doubt the cows are happier.

A neighborhood store has started carrying bison, venison, & boar recently....They're all tasty....but the open range, free grazing, organic beef from local ranches is by far the best tasting and 1/2 the price of the "exotic meat" ($4 to $6 a pound). This beef from local ranches is amazing, it's like having beef for the first time all over again, it's what beef should taste like (I don't even like to put much of anything on the beef as far as spices and condiments, because it taste so good alone).

$5, and I can have 3 to 4 rich flavorful burgers. Getting this beef is usually a once or twice a month thing.

Where the hell are you guys getting organic free-range beef for $4 a pound?  Here the absolute cheapest lean ground beef you can get is about $4/lb.  Free-range organic is $10+.

I forget the cost here,  but they sell bison and elk.  There's a farm here on the outskirts of town.  You can expect to pay more and sometimes it's mixed with pork or beef.

They sell pre-cooked Ballpark Beef patties that you can microwave, you have to microwave them for at least 2 minutes by themselves, I can't imagine eating one that was only cooked for a minute that would be fucking gross as shit with all the water retention they get from being frozen.

This thread was making me hungry, so I went to the store. Picked up 3/4 of a lb of some organic, free range grass fed beef @ $3.50/lb....

This is the cheapest I've seen it in a while...usually floats between $4 & $6 per lb.

Threw some avocado, white cheddar, and bell pepper up on that burger too....:drooling:

Not kiddin' ya....If the package wasn't in the trash already I'd take a pic. Like I mentioned, it is on sale at the moment, I have seen prices up around $6 for this beef.

As far as Bison, Ostrich, Venison, and other exotic meats...at the place I go to it's usually around $7 to $12 a lb depending on what it is.

For a few dollars more than the price peoples are dropping on a single meal at Mcdonalds or other fast foods places...I'm getting like 3 to 4 really good burgers (1 lb), with a few veggies/toppings like bell peppers (50 to 75 cents each) and avocados (50 cents to $1).

So a bomb organic grass-fed burger with goodness on top is just a couple $ if that.

dude that is so annoying.
fuck.
food is crazy expensive here, for shitty food.
I remember CO food stores, everything, free range, organic, grass fed, you name it, and relatively cheap.
in NJ, you have to make special trips to find this stuff and you'll pay out the ass. The Shoprite in my town does not carry any free range chicken that I have seen, no grass fed beef, "fanciest" meat is Bison @ $10 a pound as I said. It's no bueno. oh and our "organic" beef (still fed grain and corn and all that trash) is something along the lines of 8 or 9 bucks a pound.
