A decent evolution simulator

Look up Species: ALRE.

If you're into evolution simulators and sandboxes you might like this. It's set in a randomly generated 3D world with parameters of your choosing and is populated by a kind of creature representation. They breed, feed and attack each other. Mutations allow them to change and develop body parts over time. The process itself is entirely down to natural selection, which survive better. Except for the blank slate bot that you get at the start, none of them are pre-designed. What evolves on your world is going to be close to unique (some develop similar strategies for survival but their genomes will be different). There is a clade diagram so you can see how they speciate over time. You can enforce selective pressures by employing rovers to feed or kill animals with the trait of your choosing.

It is a very resource intensive software though. If you want a decent simulation you need a good CPU as it's allegedly more CPU intensive than anything else. I can't run simulations with more than 1000 individuals but it gives you the option for many more.

I'm pretty addicted to it at the moment. What do you think of it?
