Could I have found Liberty Caps?
    #18755027 - 08/25/13 12:37 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

Habitat:

Found growing under evergreen trees on soil and among the trees near a path. Sheep would be in the area

Gills:

Light in colour.

Stem:

1 - 2" long thin and stringy

Cap:

Small tan sort of colour lightly ribbed lines running vertical

Found a couple of days after rain. Growing in clumps. Other fungi in the general area but not in the immediate area. All the info I can give.

Pictures below:

Hopefully I will have struck gold here as there are quite a few of these about where I took these from. So please can anyone tell me have I got Liberty caps or is it back to the fields again?

Thanks for the help.

Ah bollocks!

On the plus side it would have taken ages to pick them all so it saves me that time :frown:

Thanks for the speedy reply guys.

Any advice on finding them?

I don't know - I look at the photos on the link and the look so much like the ones I picked. Looks like I am going to have to stick to growing my own; it's not easy without a seasoned guide :frown:

OK I'm back again, (I can almost hear the groans). I have found the below samples on a wellish kept garden in grass about 6cm deep no cow dung but plenty of dogs!

To me they look like the real thing but I have been known to be wrong  . So once more, have I struck gold?

Thanks for the help.

Obey the Ganz!

Further, clear pics of the muchroom in its' habitat, and clear close pics of the cap, gills, stem and a sporeprint would go a long way to helping theshroomery help you.

It all goes 'round, you see.

"The initial quake was a 6.6 but fairly shallow. I felt it as a prolonged up and down vibration followed by a jolt forward and then to the left, like square dancing."

They look kinda like liberty caps to me, if you're ever unsure; spore print, spore print, spore print.

Will try and look for some more, I removed them from an old dears garden I was cutting and those were a bit dry in the ground. I will take a walk over to 'survey my work' and will hopefully get more specimens.

Thanks for the help guys.

They definitely have characteristics of psilocybe semilanceata but dry specimens are much harder to ID than fresh.

Where about are you located btw?

Looks like it could be, but a photo of fresh specimen from the same patch would allow for a much more solid id.

My friends are garden landscapers and would find plenty of libs in their clients gardens.  They tend to be further out in the country, can afford to keep the grass fertilised and can't be arsed to do their own gardening so the grass is generally undisturbed making conditions favourable.

take it from Byrain. Those are not the statue that your interested in. And like the others have said, you should take a closer look at the print under your microscope. Liberty's are sometimes hard to identify if you dont know what your looking for.

Your last set of pictures are Psilocybe semilanceata.
