Hebrews 13:17 Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.

Very good, and a lovely shade of pink too. Is it from a known population?

@LSoares thanks bud! Both are San Juan. The one that flowered has 3 other buds on it. I am really enjoying watching my first flowers develop.
@Everyone else... Honestly, I found it amusing that CK was the only one that commented for 3 days after I posted the buds. No need to be mad at me friends, I am here just to grow and share like the rest of you. Thank you to those who reached out to me (you know who you are), when I appeared to be having an issue. There were many others that had my contact information and I had at least a friendly rapport with, but did nothing to make sure I was truly ok. I debated even coming back to this community although a few friends have encouraged it. However, it's plain for me to see that I am not really missing anything here that I can't obtain elsewhere. Thank you to everyone here who got me started, and helped me along.

hookah, how many times do you have to be pointed to the rules?

Now I get it, I was confused about why someone who joined after the contest started would post pics in this thread. Welcome back hookah, nice plant.

Who exactly do you think is mad at you? We are all here to share our passion and love for the little green pricks we cultivate and I don't think any of us hold grudges (though in this case I'm not even sure what people would be mad at you about).

Were we supposed to assume you were in trouble of some sort and not OK? If that's the case, I had no idea. You appeared to be doing just fine when we last spoke though.

I encourage you to come back. That last sentence seems like an insult to our community more than anything though. Not sure what that's all about, but you'd be welcomed back here especially considering a particular person that gave our entire forum heaps of trouble and was referenced in several hilarious memes is banned until the year 2024.
I admittedly was given your email by m.s and kept putting off emailing you, so that's on me and I apologize. I wasn't even interested in a trade at that point and just wanted to drop a friendly 'hello' line but days and weeks kept passing by and I did nothing. Hope to see you around more frequently but don't assume some of us didn't miss you in some way or another. I'm extremely antisocial and I wish things were different but I don't reach out to contact most people, so don't take it personally. This is a fault of mine that I hope I can overcome eventually. All of your threads with useful info still get referenced by me all the time when I'm looking stuff up too. You were missed by many whether you want to realize that or not.

I'm sorry you don't post here anymore, your grows were great! That person really wasn't worth it. I missed most of the drama because I decided to take a break from the EG until that person was removed, long before it truly escalated. I for one am glad that is all behind us now, and the garden is once again a nice and relaxing place for all us antisocial plant weirdos. I'd encorage you to put the past behind you and join us once again! And that flower is truly stunning, never saw one like that!

Sorry guys I think I was just being a bit of a dick. It seems as though I was the only one who still hadn't put the episode "in the past". I often unintentionally seek approval without realizing it. So thanks for the comments, I truly missed many of you as well. Sorry to let my ego and attitude get in the way, and muck some things up for a bit. I definitely learned somethings about myself and the world I am part of. We all co-create something beautiful together here.
Some questions for ya here because I honestly have no clue. Does anyone know if San Juan is self-fertile? I was under the assumption that all LW were, but after reading some stuff I guess that's not true. Second, this plant has 3 other buds on it. Is this normal and do you think all of them will open? I certainly didn't expect these things to flower yet
Edit: Just wanted to add that these plants have been indoor under my light setup this whole time as its been winter here since I've sown these guys. Both of the plants had a pup cut off them, so maybe that's what induced flowering?

I had the same impression, that all L. williamsii are self-fertile, until I read what I suppose you read yourself. While I strive to have at least two plants of each population so I can cross-pollinate them, I'll try to see if I can clear this and test southern populations for self-fertility. That said, I have no experience with that population. so I can't honestly answer your question.
It's not impossible for a few seed grown plants from a proven self-fertile population to be self-infertile. Heck, there are a lot of self-infertility mechanisms and I wouldn't be surprised if plants could switch from one side to another, or to be either way depending on environmental conditions, age, whatever. My grafted plant was grown from seed of my own production, from a self-fertile "anonymous" plant. While it flowers profusely it hasn't set a single fruit, neither self- nor cross-pollinated. Go figure.

Could either of you two point me to the article you read about some LW not being self fertile? This is very interesting, I want to read it.

I do not have an article handy but what I recall reading was that it's the southern variety of L. williamsii that is supposed to be self-sterile.

There are other claims as this on a certain website...
"Big Bend, just like many other Lophohora variations are self sterile, meaning they require cross pollination to produce fruit. Now that I have assured myself of this I have begun cross pollinating, and the plants are finally producing fruit pods with seed."

Big Bend is the northern tip of the distribution area of Lophophora williamsii. The plot thickens...

My only graft died I've had a bunch of issues with spidermites, and little thin black bugs that I believe may be thrips, and the poor thing didn't make it. Oh well, I'll just have to be more prepared next year.
