ferrel_human said: those are some awesome grafts guys. It seems I receive really supple pereskiopsis and when they stay out side they get really hard and not sappy enough to take a graft. Anyways I will probably start late because I got them stumps under fluros and I hope to get them growing nice and tender.

Ferrel, make your wife water them more. I wish I could grow pereskiopsis outdoor in the winter. The sun makes BEASTLY stalks that push the scion hard. However, I have noticed pereskiopsis doesn't like to go without water very long, unlike other cacti. When they start to dry out to often, they lose a lot of leaves and become woody.
Ahh so constant water is key. I will definitely tell her to water thrm more when I am away.

They also don't like to go dry for too long during the winter. If you let them go deep into dormancy it will be a nightmare getting them to grow anyday before summer...

I have more than I know what to do with at this point and some are over a foot long with healthy lush leaves. I've spent so much money just buying more pots to hold them it's ridiculous. If you need any before the grow season hits let me know and I'll send you more than you can handle.

This is what happens when you plan ahead to do heaps of grafts and then your world is turned upside down and you don't even have time to look after the ones that you have already done. There is 120 Pere on that shelf plus I have another two trays so that's 180 plus another thirty or so mothers.

I will do a full update in the next couple of days.
Cheers Got

I wanted to show you something I think went unnoticed in my thread. So if you nip a little bit of the bottom of each cell of your seedling tray, and fill the bottom tray full of Living Soil, you get something like this. It increases the area immensely, not just vertically, but in between cells too. The cells can be filled most of the way with more soil, and topped with gravel for easy watering. The small size of the cells + gravel keep them snug. Note some of my Living Soil has settled, and will need to be topped off to get the maximum benefit. Guess what, your pereskiopsis won't dry out as fast. Probably last almost as long as if they were sitting in water. The larger grafts are ones that I transplanted, roots in tact, only with XLSCG.

Did ya catch this tip?

The white strips help to reflect/distribute light more evenly and efficiently. High tech stuff, or just cut up milk cartons?

It's up to you and I'm honestly not sure what is best. I currently don't have any, but I feel there is plenty of airspace to allow my soil to dry out in between waterings. Plus we already know that you could probably fill the whole tub with water for 10 days and they would still survive...
