I do wish I had some lights to supplement the short and weak sun but the sun will only get stronger from here on. It has been unseasonably warm here so I decided to just start fertilizing the shit out of the graft and will also be increasing the watering.

The center brown one is weird. I like it. I wonder what its going to do? It's like a spider or crab or something.

Feeling lazy with all the holiday stuff didn't feel like updating my other post. I been using a 40x hand loop for the seedling photos, but that doesn't seem to work well now. Just counting down the months till they can go outside.
Still not sure whats up with the top graft. It has a mohawk. The growth on the left seems interesting.

I don't like grafting. I'm not good at it during fair weather and I strongly doubt I'll do any better with the miserable winter we're having. That said, yesterday I grafted the three lousy seedlings I got on three of the four dwarf Pereskiopsis I managed to root. No one will be more surprised than me if any of it takes. The front left one is a two year old seedling I took pity of and decided to give a try on the remaining stock. All Lophophora williamsii. We'll talk again in a week or so.

Just a couple of quick pics of a couple of grafts. I will do a proper update in a few days.

My two Lophs. Even when you are not trying to grow the fattest / fastest Loph you can get good growth with proven low cost, basic methods and equipment

Great range of good looking grafts Corporal.
Mostly as usual you have set the benchmark. Unless someone comes up with a very special freak you have that section in the bag.
Cheers Got

This is what I got. A bunch of "sun tanned" lophs. The biggest one is my first graft. It is steadily getting larger. Next to a U.S. Dime.

I might not even have updated enough to qualify anymore, but at least I can try.

It was time to chop this guy and get him rooted by spring. That beautiful stump was to tempting...

Nice. I did one similar to that a couple years ago and things worked out pretty well. More permanent than leaving the loph on pereskiopsis, and you can root the trichocereus-loph portion later if desired.

I think I fucked up my graft as all the pereskiopsis flowers are yellowing fast and some have already fallen. I'm guessing salt accumulation from my fertilizing The lophos are VERY dark and look nice but I doubt I'll be winning this year. Last year my lopho was much further ahead by this time.
I'm seeing some very good grafts this year glad there is more participation.

those are some awesome grafts guys. It seems I receive really supple pereskiopsis and when they stay out side they get really hard and not sappy enough to take a graft. Anyways I will probably start late because I got them stumps under fluros and I hope to get them growing nice and tender.

Much to my shock and surprise, all three grafts appear to have taken. I was lucky and we had a week of milder temperatures and high humidity. Anyway, here they are in all they glory (although I'm still suspicious as to how much longer will they last...)

Ferrel, make your wife water them more. I wish I could grow pereskiopsis outdoor in the winter. The sun makes BEASTLY stalks that push the scion hard. However, I have noticed pereskiopsis doesn't like to go without water very long, unlike other cacti. When they start to dry out to often, they lose a lot of leaves and become woody.

I learned that lesson quite quickly when I started growing these for grafting. I keep all my pere pots wet now and never have issues with leaf drop or woodiness. Thankfully they don't really need or want a dormant period so I let them grow all year round and keep topping them.
