Well 3 grafts failed. Went to work and came back to find they did not take. Maybe I rushed it. : confused:

I just finished up grafting my lophs, now i just am going to do about 6 more astros.  I think I may have a variegated loph and astro, they are both really yellow but their neighbors are green :yesnod:

Looks like most of mine stuck, just nothing exciting to show yet.  Grafted about 8 lophs total so far.

yea i am at 14 grafts total, i have about 6 more to do, and am thinking about a heating mat to keep em warm at night.  they are growing, but at night the temps are a little low i feel.  I think it may be worthwhile.  Thoughts opinions?

I really want to use only natural sunlight and am striving my best to do so, but i am running out of window sil space with all my other stuffs!

Astro's and my first batch of grafts already showing growth!

Loph Willi Huizache
they are a couple weeks behind the astros or so

here is one a little closer

Here is my latest batch, including a possible variegated!

There is a failed graft in the background  but it wasn't for this competition.  So far 100% success and a total of 14 grafts.  I have 6 more to go the next batch will be astros, including another possibly variegated!!!

Seeing that I have never grown a cactus from seed or ever attempt a graft before...  Its time and I'm totally in

I sowed seeds on 10\25 of:

Peruvianus
Pachanoi
Mixed Lophs
Ferocactus wislizeni

Some of the likely victims for my root stock; Pereskiopsis and possibly some Opuntia

Seeds are already sprouting, will follow-up with progress pics.
Wish me luck!

So after 6 months of the "new upload system" being completely broken for me I have been forced to begin hosting my images elsewhere.

I did not want to bump the old thread but wanted to share my entry for last years competition.

These two are coming along nicely:

This was a white seedling. I don't think it will remain that pink :frown:

It was from this cross:

I doubt it. I thought chimeras were even more rare than varigation. And I have yet to see a pereskiopsis chimera on the internet.

I finally got my seed order the other day. I bleach sterilized the seeds and sowed them on sterile coarse sand. I had to move them around with tweezers. Kicked my ass. Anyway, here is the pic.

Left side is just willy. Right is willy v. Texana
Yeah I know the spacing is weird. I might be getting more seed later to fill it in.

 I started off sowing them in nice neat and organized rows too.  Then I realized the futility of that after the next few thousand or so seeds were purchased.  Good luck on germ rates DD.

I counted the seeds as well. 105 for texana and 208 for willy. I want to record an actuall germination percentage. I just want to get a feel for how fresh my seed source is. The rows made it easier to count seeds. But when they germ the roots will push every direction and the seeds will look all jumbled anyway. This is probably the first and last time I will be sowing this way.

I also have been sowing opuntia basalaris seed on and off and might attempt a few hypocotyl grafts with the opuntia as stock.

Here is an update on my only graft thus far.

Still red, but growing.

It's getting closer to the seed deadline guys. I hope everyone makes it.
Good luck all!
