Eh no. There are layers and layers of bureaucracy, and between the dems and repubs butting heads on 90% of policies not a lot gets passed.
If we only needed the decision of one man it'd be a dictatorship, it's actually a democracy... well, not a democracy, but a constitutional republic. Still not a dictatorship though.

The executive power of the president is enough to go to war without the approval of congress. Lots of people seem to think that the president is just a puppet at the mercy of the congress. Its a rather big underestimation of the executive power of the president. He's the commander in chief of the US army, not congress. When he says to the military to jump, the military jumps.

USA is too big, I have a lot more pride in my state than I do in my country and I have no pride in my government even at a municipal level.

Not really. There is not nearly as much violence and Canada news media isn't constantly pumping propaganda 24/7

Quote:

Really? That's not what we heard when we took out Saddam Hussein who was a brutal military dictator who regularly threatened the US and invaded other countries and used chemical weapons on civilians.

I don't support that war, but make no mistake, Iraq under Saddam Hussein was just as bad or worse than the governments of North Korea, Iran, and Syria. We didn't get any kind of thanks for taking him out even though Iraq was every bit just as bad.

There was no evidence that saddam did any of that. We just had to take the word of the mainstream media. Same thing now that's happening to Syria, Iran, and NK. For all you know, they are actually the good guys and the US is the horrible dictatorship.

Aside from the OP this post was so stunningly stupid that I had to respond.  No evidence?  He was found guilty in a trial by his fellow citizens.  Which has nothing to do with why we decided, along with 50 other nations to end the Iraq war begun with the invasion of Kuwait.

We aren't involved in Egypt and Syria because those are entirely internal.  Neither Iraq nor Afghanistan was.  They were exporters.  We are not in N. K. because of China.  Iran?  Should have been done 30 years ago.

Do you really think most liberals grow up and become conservatives? That they just find god and suddenly trade one set of beliefs for another, slightly less rational one?

God has nothing to do with it.  Here's what happens.  They get away from the liberal education system and find out how the real world works.  Then when the shitbags come to tax the fuck out of their money to give to loser shitheads like they used to be they get a little education.  Get your Obamaphone sounds real cool until have to actually pay for yours and theirs.

Actually no, it requires Congress to authorize it.  Even our limited activity in Libya was stretching the Constitutional bounds of presidential action.  You don't know what you're talking about.  Yet another foreigner willfully ignorant yet insisting on opining about America.

They can do little shit without authorization.  Obama's actions regarding Libya were right there at the line.  He cannot by himself decide to invade Syria, Egypt, Iran, N. K. or anywhere else.  From your link

Quote:

Under the United States Constitution, war powers are divided. Congress has the power to declare war, raise and support the armed forces, control the war funding (Article I, Section 8), and has "Power … to make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution … all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof", while the President is commander-in-chief of the military (Article II, Section 2). It is generally agreed that the commander-in-chief role gives the President power to repel attacks against the United States[6][7] and makes the President responsible for leading the armed forces. In addition and as with all acts of the Congress, the President has the right to sign or veto congressional acts, such as a declaration of war.

Do you really think most liberals grow up and become conservatives? That they just find god and suddenly trade one set of beliefs for another, slightly less rational one?

see there, you buy into the liberal media hype too, somehow you seem to
believe that conservatives are the religious ones when we've seen that they
like to portray the small westborough type groups as the representation of
conservative values, you seem to have missed the fact that Obama was an
avid church goer, every sunday for 20 years he was in church hearing
sermons about the white devil controlling the black man

now let's look at some fact, if 83% of the US professes to be christian and
the numbers of liberals are larger than those of conservatives then doesnt
that mean that most liberals already believe in those ridiculous religious
beliefs, so really, by your convoluted logic, liberals are already
conservatives and unlike in one of patlals earlier threads where it was
claimed that liberals are smarter, we know that wisdom comes with age and
people wise up to the liberal bullshit when they begin to understand that
they cant spend their way out of debt or support the world with financial
aid while still paying their own bills

so yeah, the numbers of conservatives are growing because liberals are
growing up and realizing that 'liberalism' is for children that believe the
world owes them because mommy and daddy supported them all these years
